Project Overview: Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. Job Summary: Bechtel is now accepting applications from Environmental, Social Communities, or Marketing/Communications graduates to join our 2027 Graduate Program located at our Brisbane office. Commencing in January 2027, the Bechtel Graduate Sustainability position forms a part of our 2-year rotational graduate program, offering insights across major projects, functions, and offers you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the Mining and Metals industry. The role provides an opportunity to build a foundation in sustainable development within the mining and metals industry. It supports understanding how sustainable development principles are applied across projects, business decisions, and organisational initiatives, with a focus on environmental, social and governance considerations throughout the project lifecycle. Positioned within a multidisciplinary environment, the role is connected to project teams, internal initiatives, and research activities that contribute to the integration of sustainable development. The role is structured to support learning through participation, collaboration, and exposure to a range of sustainable development contexts. It is intended for graduates who are interested in how sustainable development is applied in practice and how it contributes to project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and long‑term value. Major Responsibilities: - Analyse Sustainability and ESG trends in the mining industry. - Provide input into the development of the company Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan. - Participate in the identification of Sustainability and ESG initiatives for existing and future projects. - Provide day-to-day follow up and support to team members in relation to project / engagement delivery - Support in preparation for meetings on sustainability matters - Support in responding to sustainability-related proposals - Support in the development of tools; templates etc to support overall management and execution of sustainability across mining and metals - Participate in projects, shadows and learning, client interaction, project management, scheduling and workshops. - Contribute to the successful execution of other research initiatives as needed. Education and Experience Requirements: - Applicants must have completed their degree at an accredited university in social sciences, human rights, sustainability, communications and/or international/community/public relations. - A passion for Sustainable Development. - Basic computer skills including competence in MS Office suite and other common software - Experience in Microsoft PowerBI is highly desirable - Flexibility and enthusiasm for individual and team tasks. - Analytical problem-solving capabilities. - Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication. - Indigenous and Torres Strait Island candidates are encouraged to apply.
