Principal Duties & Responsibilities The O&M Transition Manager is a critical member of the O&M Operational Readiness team, responsible for ensuring that new projects are handed off from Construction to Operations in a condition that enables safe, high-performing, and fully controllable plant operations from Day 1. The Transition Manager serves as the O&M representative throughout the Construction of the project, coordinating across Execution, Field Operations, ROCC, Performance Engineering, and other key teams to drive readiness at key milestones. Travel to project sites will be required ~20% of the time. Candidate would ideally be within driving distance of an AES office, and work east or central time hours; however, highly qualified candidates outside of these locations will also be considered. Key Activities Early Development / Pre-NTP • Represent O&M at Project Kickoff; align on transition process and integration requirements • Participate in design reviews and provide O&M feedback on constructability and operability NTP / Post-NTP • Join ongoing project calls and integrate appropriate O&M resources • Coordinate early O&M planning activities including securing spare parts and PPA/IA review Pre-Energization • Ensure O&M teams are prepared for substation energization — SCADA/alarms, NERC compliance, switching plans, and site training • Co-lead Energization Readiness Review with the Execution PM Pre-Mechanical Completion • Coordinate Field Operations hiring and integration with the project team • Drive O&M readiness activities: EPC/OEM training, environmental/permitting reviews, and site walkdowns Pre-COD • Oversee documentation structure and transfer to O&M repository • Integrate safety teams and O&M Field Ops team into commissioning activities • Co-lead COD Readiness Review; confirm ROCC, NERC, and Market Ops requirements are met Pre-SC / Transition to O&M • Lead O&M-side readiness activities: punchlist review, RCA review, and asset performance assessment • Co-lead Transition to O&M Readiness Review; identify and track critical items Post-SC / Final Completion • Monitor punchlist closure and site performance; escalate issues requiring Execution support while EPC remains active • Confirm all documentation, permits, and deliverables are complete at Final Completion Behavioral Attributes - Cross-functional leadership: Able to drive action and alignment across Execution, Operations, ROCC, Engineering, PAM, and external contractors without direct authority - Proactive, self-starter: Understands outcomes and drives hard to achieve them with little oversight, operating independently to overcome challenges and develop solutions - Outcomes-focused: Takes personal accountability for achieving target outcomes on assigned projects - Strong project management: Tracks multiple concurrent workstreams, escalates blockers proactively, and keeps process moving toward milestone gates - Clear communicator (verbal and written): Translates technical and contractual details into direction for diverse audiences including field teams, PMs, and senior leadership; can facilitate large, cross-functional meetings on challenging subjects - Technical fluency: Understands electrical systems, commissioning processes, SCADA/controls, and renewable energy O&M well enough to evaluate site readiness and identify gaps - Detail-oriented: Maintains accurate records, validates documentation against standards, and flags deviations early - Safety-first culture: Models and reinforces AES CE's commitment to an incident-free work environment - Passion: Displays passion to learn/discover new things with the ability to bring positive energy into the team - Continuous improvement mindset: Applies lessons learned to evolve the transition process and improve outcomes; always seeking improvements (technical, personal, soft skills) in oneself and welcomes challenges by setting higher goals Experience Required - Background in renewable energy O&M, EPC construction, or project management — solar, BESS, and/or wind - Field experience working on or around utility-scale construction or O&M sites, with the practical instincts to anticipate problems before they become operational liabilities - Solid understanding of electrical systems and power generation equipment - Experience managing multi-stakeholder processes with construction, engineering, and operations teams - Proficiency in MS Office Preferred - Direct experience with utility-scale solar or BESS commissioning - QA/QC experience/familiarity with punchlist and deficiency mgmt. processes - Experience reviewing EPC contracts and OEM agreements - Experience with project mgmt. and documentation platforms (e.g., Procore, Box) Compensation - Commensurate with experience; competitive AES is an Equal Opportunity Employer who is committed to building strength and delivering long-term sustainability through diversity and inclusion.
