We want to make schools more joyful places to work, as well as learn.  About the role We are looking for an experienced and collaborative Senior Product Engineer to join our Engineering team and contribute to the development of the core of the Arbor Workflows product - our automation tool for the Arbor Product Suite that helps customers to get work done quickly and accurately. The remit and focus of the role is to lead and drive the successful completion of high-impact features, specifically contributing to the advancement of Arbor Workflows. Core responsibilities - Work closely with the Product Director, Engineering Manager, Tech Lead and Product Manager to help solutionise feature requests - Contribute to the success of an ambitious roadmap through consistent delivery - Lead the creation of detailed documentation for new feature developments, incorporating diagrams for comprehensive project understanding - Drive the development and implementation of advanced tests around new features, ensuring the highest standards of test coverage and reliability - Demonstrate expertise in producing well-architected, efficient, and scalable code using industry-leading design patterns and methodologies - Take a leadership role in code reviews and pair programming sessions, guiding and mentoring colleagues towards excellence

Role Description As a Full-Stack Developer at Carnelian, you will work across the entire technology stack, from backend services (FastAPI, Django) to frontend applications (React/Next.js). You will help design scalable microservices, build reusable UI components, integrate headless CMS systems, and contribute to product development across multiple Carnelian projects, including AI-powered capabilities where applicable. Key Responsibilities - Build and maintain modern web applications using Python (FastAPI, Django), React, and Next.js. - Implement scalable APIs, backend logic, and database models (PostgreSQL preferred). - Develop reusable UI components aligned with Figma designs. - Integrate frontend applications with backend services and headless CMS platforms (e.g., Strapi). - Ensure strong SEO performance, accessibility, and responsiveness across devices. - Work with Docker-based environments and contribute to CI/CD processes. - Assist with cloud deployments (AWS) and platform optimization. - Support data-processing pipelines and modular microservices. - (Nice to have) Contribute to AI-assisted workflows using OpenAI, Llama, LangChain, or similar tools. Qualifications - 3+ recent years full-stack development experience. - Strong proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Django). - Strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, and Next.js. - Familiarity with RESTful API design, microservices, and modern backend architectures. - Strong understanding of databases, schema design, and query optimization. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud services (AWS, Vercel, etc.) and Git workflows. - Experience implementing tests across backend and frontend systems. Preferred Skills - Experience with Headless CMS platforms (Strapi). - Experience with Generative AI frameworks and model integrations. - Familiarity with financial software (bonus but not required). Soft Skills - Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment. - Strong communication and documentation habits. - Problem-solving mindset and willingness to take ownership. - Comfortable collaborating with technical and non-technical team members. - Enthusiasm for continuous learning and skill development. - Strong English communication skills (written and spoken). Compensation This role offers a monthly salary between $1,800 and $2,500 USD, depending on experience, technical depth, and overall fit.
