Role Description An exciting opportunity supporting the Australian Defence Force, we are seeking a Senior Data Modeller to support Ventia on a fixed term contract for approximately 6 months. The Senior Data Modeller plays a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining robust data models that unlock value from SAP and other operational data sources. The role transforms raw data into high‑performance reporting layers within Databricks and Power BI, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and performance. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): - Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models which align to the Ventia Enterprise Framework manual. - Design Delta Lake structures including bronze/silver/gold layers. - Work with business analysts and reporting team to convert requirements into robust data models. - Work alongside other Ventia members to ensure accurate implementation of physical models in Databricks. - Ensure models align with metadata, lineage, naming conventions, and security requirements. - Develop modelling templates, reusable patterns, and reference architectures. - Support ingestion, transformation, and modelling strategies across Databricks workflows. - Assist in data validation, profiling, and optimisation. Qualifications - Qualification in analytics, data science, finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, or similar is desired. - 10+ years in data analysis; 5+ years data modelling in Azure roles. - Strong use of Azure Tools and Resources. - Use of SQL, Databricks, Azure and data modelling in cloud environments. - Delta Lake concepts (ACID transactions, Delta logs, schema evolution, OPTIMIZE/VACUUM). - Ability to translate complex business concepts into clear, structured data designs. - Excellent communication skills across technical and non‑technical groups. - Baseline security clearance current, or expired is HIGHLY desired. - Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undertake and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police Check.
