Position Overview Under the general direction of the Dean of Student Learning, the Full-time Tenure Track Communication Studies faculty teach in variety of communication courses, as well as collaborate with discipline colleagues in curricular revisions, the design of new courses, and the creation of innovative assessments within the Communication Studies discipline. Cascadia faculty support active and interactive learning through collaborative activities and inquiry-based approaches that challenge students to think critically, creatively, and reflectively and that foster communication skills within our complex world. Faculty provide leadership and contribute to the implementation and enhancement of Cascadia's curriculum, course of study, and college-wide review of student achievement. Tenure-track and tenured faculty engage in service to the college and professional development activities. Service activities may include committees and councils, as well as discipline leadership and projects. Our faculty continue to engage in professional development in their fields, as well as teaching best practices. Our Communication Studies curriculum includes courses in public speaking, interpersonal and professional communication, intercultural and multicultural communication, media studies, and film studies. Cascadia College¿s Communications faculty come under the Humanities division and are critical partners in our Communication, Creative Arts, and Design area of interest (AOI). Communication Studies faculty and students are supported by our trained Student Speech Coaches in collaboration with the Bock Learning Center. As a Full-time Tenure Track Communication Studies faculty, it is expected that the following qualities will be demonstrated daily: a high degree of understanding and empathy for all students, faculty, staff and visitors, as well as the ability to encourage the inclusion of all voices in decision-making, promoting equity in all areas, and actively working against institutionalized norms of oppression against historically marginalized people. Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications: - Masters Degree from a regionally accredited college/university in speech, media, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, intercultural communication, speech communication, or organizational communication - Experience with current teaching modalities including course design online for accessibility - Demonstrated commitment to and interest in diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to support a multicultural workplace and educational environment Preferred Qualifications: - Experience teaching a variety of the core undergraduate courses in Communication Studies. - Recent related teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level. Demonstrated knowledge of emerging and current instructional technologies, including but not limited to social media and AI. - Demonstrated experience with implementing culturally inclusive pedagogy and practices that support students from historically underrepresented and non-traditional backgrounds. Full-time faculty are expected to maintain a physical presence on-campus that matches the expectations described in the current collective bargaining agreement.
