Senior Software Engineer (React Native)
Optibus
About Optibus: Optibus is a unified software platform revolutionizing public transportation planning, scheduling, and operations in over 7,000 cities worldwide. Using AI, ML, and optimization algorithms, it empowers agencies to design more efficient, equitable, and sustainable transit networks, enhancing passenger access, reducing emissions, and improving driver conditions. With offices globally and a team of 350+ employees, Optibus fosters a collaborative culture centered on innovation, determination, and impact. As the first unicorn in public transportation technology, Optibus is driving the modernization of mass transit to make it the preferred choice for cities and passengers alike. About the position: We’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Ops Driver Team. You’ll play a key role in building and scaling our driver-facing products — mainly mobile apps — that empower public transport operators and drivers across the world. This is a senior position for someone with 5+ years of experience who’s ready to take ownership of high-impact projects, driving technical direction, architecture, and execution across frontend, backend, and infrastructure layers, collaborating closely with Product, Design, and fellow engineers. You’ll join a friendly, highly collaborative group operating remotely from Madrid, working with local colleagues and partners across the globe. The distributed Ops Driver team meets in person every year for planning, alignment, and good coffee. Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain mobile applications using React Native and TypeScript. - Setup the initial foundation and build our new React Native application from scratch. - Contribute to the architecture and evolution of our existing Driver App and its supporting services. - Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to deliver intuitive, user-centric features for our mobile apps. - Work closely with other engineering teams to ensure system-wide reliability, scalability, and performance. - Take ownership of the full development lifecycle — from idea to production monitoring. - Lead or mentor other engineers, helping elevate code quality, best practices, and technical craftsmanship across the team. - Contribute to technical discussions on architecture, design patterns, and infrastructure. Requirements - 5+ years of experience in full-stack development, including experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and React Native. - Proven experience building and maintaining mobile apps at scale. - Experience with mobile development lifecycle, like deploying mobile apps to app stores. - Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL). - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Comfort navigating and improving CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, CircleCI, RN Detox). - Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset — you enjoy mentoring and learning from others. Nice to Have: - Experience on native mobile development (Kotlin on Android and/or Swift on iOS). - Hands-on experience with serverless architectures, especially AWS Lambda. - Experience in backend development using Node.js with TypeScript. - Understanding of infrastructure-as-code, ideally with AWS CDK. - Background in public transport or mobility domains. Optibus is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We hire talented individuals, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, ancestry, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, religious beliefs, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws. It is our responsibility at Optibus to provide an inclusive and accessible interview experience for all. We will provide reasonable accommodations for all candidates in need of individualised support during the hiring process.
