Applications Engineer

Armstrong Fluid Technology

• Evaluate customer enquiries and scrutinise P&I drawings to understand design intent, application requirements, and optimal product fit. • Recommend Armstrong products/solutions that maximise system efficiency and performance. • Identify and select appropriate alternative products where required using company selection tools. • Engage early with sales management and field sales at key points in the customer buying journey to support design and application discussions. • Support external sales teams with proposal follow-up activities. • Participate in customer discussions on complex opportunities, including solution development, tender clarification, and benefit articulation to help secure business. • Develop proposals from base configurations, ensuring technical accuracy and commercial alignment. • Prepare high-quality quotation packages and supporting documentation, including value articulation materials. • Act as a champion of best practice in the sales process and ensure strong pre-proposal information quality. • Contribute to strategic planning (POMA) for selected opportunities in collaboration with sales managers. • Support defined sales strategies, proposal direction, and opportunity close-out activities. • Assist in compiling and reviewing sales forecasts, strategic initiatives, and key account activities when required. • Organise and participate in project and peer reviews at key stages of the proposal and sales process. • Act as gatekeeper for RSEC involvement and drive continuous improvement in proposal development practices. • Represent RSEC in regional and national sales meetings. • Conduct site and client visits where required to communicate Armstrong solutions and support integration into customer specifications and schedules.

Job Requirements

  • Qualification in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering (Degree preferred).
  • Experience in a technical applications role within the HVAC industry (beneficial).
  • Background as an Application Engineer with HVAC systems experience, ideally hydronics and/or pumps.
  • Experience using an industry-recognised CRM system and working within a defined sales process (advantageous).
  • Experience engaging with customers, consultants, and engineers in technical sales environments.
  • Willingness to travel across Europe on an ad hoc basis for customer engagement and sales activities.
  • High level proficiency in interpreting P&I drawings for mechanical/HVAC applications.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC components and their interaction within heating and cooling circuits.
  • Technical understanding of the company’s product range (advantageous).
  • Ability to analyse and manipulate technical data and statistics (advanced MS Office capability).
  • Competence in IT systems and business software, including configuration tools and CRM platforms.
  • Ability to develop technically accurate proposals based on value engineering principles.
  • Accurate report writing and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical and commercial value.
  • Strong customer service orientation and customer-facing capability.
  • Ability to blend technical expertise with commercial awareness to support sales outcomes.
  • Initiative, self-motivation, and commitment to high standards of quality and efficiency.
  • Proactive, flexible, and adaptable working style.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with sales teams and stakeholders.
