The Director of Developer Relations is responsible for building that trust across the developer ecosystem. This role leads CData’s developer engagement strategy, ensuring developers can discover, evaluate, and successfully build with our platform. The Director will establish CData’s technical voice in the developer community, build relationships with developers and technical influencers, and create the programs that drive developer adoption. You will be accountable for measurable developer engagement and adoption outcomes. This role operates primarily at the early stages of the developer journey, building engagement and credibility that ultimately creates demand and product adoption over time. This is a hybrid leadership role appropriate for a high-growth company. While embedded within the Product organization, the role partners closely with Engineering and Marketing to activate developer engagement programs, technical content, and community initiatives. What you'll do - Build Developer Trust & Community - Establish CData’s technical voice across developer communities focused on AI, MCP, agent architecture, integration platforms, and data connectivity. - Build a content strategy and deliver deep technical content including architecture guides, reference implementations, integration tutorials, developer thought leadership. - Represent CData at developer conferences, technical events, and online developer communities. - Create technical case studies that tell the “how they built it” story alongside product marketing’s business outcome version, the same customer story tailored for two audiences. - Build and grow CData’s developer presence across GitHub and relevant developer platforms. - Create feedback loops that bring developer insights and pain points directly into roadmap discussions. - Drive Developer Engagement & Adoption - Define the developer journey from discovery to first successful integration with the platform. - Improve developer onboarding and time-to-first value through documentation, sample projects, and tutorials. - Partner with Marketing to amplify high-impact technical content and developer programs. - Identify and activate high-leverage developer communities, platforms, and technical ecosystems. - Define, instrument, and analyze developer engagement metrics that reflect your mission of trust and adoption. - Build programs that grow the developer ecosystem and expand CData’s footprint in technical communities. - Activate Internal Developer Expertise - Enable engineers, architects, and product teams to contribute to developer outreach and technical storytelling. - Partner with Technical Evangelists and Product Marketing to align messaging and community initiatives. - Surface developer insights internally to influence product decisions and developer experience improvements. - Build & Lead the Developer Relations Program - Define the strategy, operating model, and metrics for Developer Relations at CData. - Hire and develop a team of developer advocates and community leaders as the program scales. - Own budgets for developer events, programs, and community initiatives. Qualifications - Has written production code professionally as a software engineer, solutions architect, or in a similar hands-on technical role. - 7+ years in Developer Relations, technical evangelism, or developer-focused roles, including leadership experience. - Deep credibility with developers and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly. - Comfortable leveraging AI coding agents and tooling to accelerate content and development workflows. - Experience in AI infrastructure, integration platforms, data systems, or developer tools. - Demonstrated ability to build working technical demos and architecture content. - Evidence of public technical credibility (talks, writing, OSS contributions). - Experience operating in a high-growth organization where you owned both strategy and execution. - This is a strategic, technical, externally facing leadership role with product influence and measurable growth accountability. Requirements - Direct influence in roadmap reviews and design discussions. - Authority to escalate developer experience issues. - Budget ownership for developer programs, events, and community tooling. - Hiring authority for developer advocates or technical content contributors as the program scales. - Accountability for defined adoption and engagement metrics. Travel - Up to 15% for conferences, customer meetings, and ecosystem events. Benefits - As part of our comprehensive benefits offerings, we provide Medical, Dental, and Vision plans with company-paid insurance premiums. - Health Saving Account offering with company contribution to help mitigate increasing health costs. - Flexible Savings Account and Dependent Care FSA. - Generous 20-day PTO and 11 paid holidays. - 401k with 100% company match up to 6% of contribution. - A remote-friendly, high-trust culture that empowers collaboration, celebrates curiosity, and encourages innovation. - Work closely with your manager to define professional development and learning opportunities that match your career goals.
• Serve as the primary champion of developer experience, setting a long-term DevEx vision and roadmap. • Work directly with engineers to deeply understand pain points, workflow inefficiencies, and systemic barriers to productivity. • Translate developer problems into scalable tooling, automation, and platform features. • Lead and mentor a high-performing CI/CD engineering team responsible for all build, deploy, and release automation. • Architect and deliver a frictionless, touchless deployment platform supporting rapid, safe, auditable releases into production. • Implement industry-grade release automation, rollback strategies, environment standardization, and compliance guardrails. • Ensure all developer platforms, pipelines, and supporting infrastructure meet rigorous availability, continuity, and DR requirements. • Partner with SRE and Infra teams to build resilient, self-healing, observable systems. • Own the creation and maintenance of internal developer tools, SDKs, frameworks, and automation. • Ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of development infrastructure. • Establish and enforce engineering best practices across teams, including documentation and training. • Partner with Security to embed secure-by-default patterns into the platform. • Partner with Product to align DevEx improvements with business priorities. • Work with leadership to define KPIs for developer productivity and continuously measure impact.
