Role Description We are looking for a skilled DBT (Data Build Tool) Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize modern data transformation pipelines. The ideal candidate has strong SQL skills, hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses, and a solid understanding of data modeling and ELT best practices. You will work closely with analytics, data science, and business teams to deliver clean, reliable, and well-documented data models. Key Responsibilities - Data Modeling & DBT Development: - Develop and maintain DBT models (staging, intermediate, mart layers) following modular design and best practices. - Implement dbt tests, documentation, sources, macros, and packages. - Build reusable and scalable data transformation frameworks. - Data Pipeline Engineering: - Design and optimize ELT workflows using DBT integrated with orchestrators (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, etc.). - Work with cloud data environments such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks. - Ensure high performance of SQL transformations and warehouse queries. - Data Quality & Governance: - Implement and maintain data quality tests within DBT (unique, not null, referential integrity). - Contribute to version control, CI/CD, documentation standards, and best practices. - Collaboration & Stakeholder Support: - Work with analysts and business teams to understand requirements and convert them into scalable data models. - Support data consumers with well-structured data and documentation (dbt docs). - Participate in code reviews and provide engineering guidance. Qualifications - 3+ years’ experience in Data Engineering / ELT development. - Strong SQL proficiency, with experience writing optimized queries. - Hands-on experience with DBT Core or DBT Cloud. - Experience with any cloud data warehouse: Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Azure Synapse. - Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern data stack principles. - Understanding of data modeling techniques (Kimball, Data Vault, Star/Snowflake). - Experience integrating DBT with orchestrators (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, etc.). • Supports the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute (BCVI) • Uncovers insights that drive strategy and optimal decision making for the executive team • Works cross-functionally to realize the value of NM’s data assets • Responsible for delivering data warehouse and analytic solutions by writing ETL packages, developing visualizations, performing data and statistical analyses, and administering systems • Applies knowledge of relational database skills including advanced SQL knowledge and the ability to create complex queries and stored procedures • Assists with the design and development of information delivery components including dashboards, reports, and cubes • Evaluates data quality and interprets results in a clear, concise manner • Owns analytics projects and collaborates with the business to gather and execute on requirements

• Design and maintain scalable star schemas within our SQL Server data warehouse, ensuring clarity and long-term maintainability • Define and rigorously enforce grain discipline across all fact tables • Architect and optimize Power BI semantic (Tabular) models for cross-company usage • Define, formalize, and document core business KPIs across Revenue, Conversion, Retention, Payments, and Finance • Establish and fully own a governed metric layer managed by BI • Create and maintain a structured KPI registry with approved measures, dimensions, and filters • Design the semantic layer to enable controlled AI access to metrics—without exposing raw tables or ambiguous logic • Ensure AI tools can safely and consistently answer analytical questions using governed definitions • Improve dataset performance through aggregations, partitioning, and incremental refresh strategies • Eliminate metric duplication and resolve conflicting definitions across reports • Provide architectural guidance to analysts building on top of the semantic layer • Contribute to long-term BI platform and analytics architecture decisions
