Assistant Counsel

Job Description We’re seeking an Assistant Counsel to join our legal team. This position is well-suited for someone eager to build broad in-house experience and contribute as a flexible team player supporting evolving business needs. The Assistant Counsel will provide legal support across a range of matters, with a particular focus on government-regulated programs and health plan operations. As a valued member of our organization, you will help support our business operations by ensuring legal compliance and managing risk effectively. This role offers exposure to complex legal and regulatory issues, close collaboration with experienced in-house counsel and meaningful interaction with internal business partners. What You’ll Do - Provides legal support to in-house counsel and internal business partners on diverse issues of law that arise in the Company’s business operations. - Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, administrative rules, and case law relevant to health plans and government health programs. Prepares legal memoranda and opinions to apply legal knowledge to varying business situations. - Drafts, negotiates, and reviews legal agreements. - Drafts and reviews correspondence and other documents on behalf of the Company. - Supports the Legal Department’s work with federal and state regulators, including research, drafting and preparation of regulatory filings and responses. - Provides client training on timely and relevant legal issues. - Monitors legislative and regulatory developments affecting health plans and government health programs and escalate key issues to senior counsel and business partners. - Responds to administrative complaints and information requests and represents the Company in such matters. Negotiates settlements of disputes and administrative complaints. - Assists with internal compliance initiatives and implementation of new legal or regulatory requirements. - Provides support on developing legal issues and Performs other duties as assigned. What You Bring - Graduate of an accredited law school required - 3+ years of experience in related field - Licensed to practice law in North Carolina or must obtain License within 1 year of employment.
