Environmental YouTube Script Writer

• Conduct in-depth research on environmental and scientific topics, including reviewing academic papers and technical sources • Translate complex scientific findings into digestible, engaging content for a general audience • Write long-form YouTube scripts (~3,000–4,000 words) optimized for viewer retention • Incorporate storytelling techniques to maintain engagement (“writing for retention”) • Collaborate with the client to refine scripts and incorporate feedback • Adapt tone to include light humor or engaging elements where appropriate • Stay current with internet culture and trends to ensure relevance for target audiences • Work with SMEs or other collaborators when needed

Job Requirements

  • Proven experience in science communication, environmental writing, or related fields
  • Strong research skills with the ability to interpret and simplify technical material
  • Experience writing for YouTube or other video platforms preferred
  • Understanding of audience retention strategies and digital storytelling
  • Ability to write for millennial and Gen Z audiences (“digitally native” voice)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Background in environmental science or a related field (preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with internet culture and trends
