Senior Workers' Comp Claims Specialist
Zenith Insurance Company (United States)
• Investigate, analyze, and determine the extent of company's liability concerning Claims and attempt to effect settlement with claimants. • Correspond with or interview medical specialists, agents, witnesses, or claimants to compile information. • Calculate benefit payments and approve payment of Claims within a certain monetary limit. • Responsible for Claims management of assigned case load within guidelines of published performance standards. • Opens new Claims, completes three-point contact, and performs needed investigations to determine compensability as well as possible subrogation or apportionment, according to state and/or Zenith’s timeframes and guidelines. • Sets appropriate reserves according to Zenith’s timeframes and guidelines. • Creates and executes action plans needed to bring case to closure. • Completes detailed settlement evaluations and recommends appropriate settlement value, within authority; negotiates claim settlements with injured workers and/or injured workers’ attorneys.
Job Requirements
- 5+ years Workers’ Compensation Claims handling experience required
- Advanced technical workers’ compensation claims knowledge.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on telephone communication required.
- Strong math and reading skills required.
- Meets all state regulatory standards regarding licensing, continuing education, and other requirements.

• The primary job function is to investigate and manage Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Claims. • Identifies and contacts each injured party to explain coverage and claims process. • Verifies coverage, eligibility and determines the Company’s course of action. • Maintains claims files, evaluates claims using facts and supporting data on injury and wages lost due to injury. • Updates appropriate parties as needed, providing new facts as they become available, and their impact upon the analysis and settlement options. • Verifies the nature and extent of injury and/or wages lost by obtaining and reviewing appropriate records and documentation. • Carefully and thoroughly reviews all pertinent information and forwards the file to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) when there is reasonable cause. • Reviews and analyzes all information and submits request for payment of claims within company guidelines to supervisor. • Thoroughly documents injury and treatment information as well as bills received for treatment and payments issued. • Contacts medical providers and injured parties to verify medical provider information, treatment received, and billing status.
