Job Description The Technology, Science & Analysis (TSA) group at BAE Systems Inc. Space and Mission Systems is looking to expand our team with an experienced embedded hardware/software engineer focused on delivering high-quality, embedded systems to our defense customers. This part-time position supports a portfolio of hardware, software, and integration and test (I&T) programs throughout our sector. Technology areas include MIL-spec embedded system design; hardware and software development, acquisition, integration, and test; high-performance computing (HPC) at the edge; Linux, RTOS, C/C++, Rust, Intel and ARM architectures, FPGAs, and sensor integration. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution. What You'll Do: - Specify, design, assemble, and test embedded hardware and software for avionics mission systems. - Work with third-party suppliers of COTS OpenVPX hardware and accessories to build and test mission systems in BAE Systems' development laboratories and at customer-identified integration and test sites. - Customize and configure operating systems (e.g.: Red Hat Linux, RTOS), board support packages, and third-party application frameworks to create an open computing environment meeting the customers' mission system requirements. - Integrate mission system hardware and software in a simulation-driven HIL/SIL laboratory to demonstrate compliance with functional and performance requirements. - Collaborate with BAE Systems' Open Architectures team to support integration and test of their software products on the target mission system(s). - Maintain a regular and predictable part-time work schedule. - Support customer specified I&T activities at non-BAE Systems sites as needed. - Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. - Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. - Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required. Working Conditions: - This is a part-time position. - Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. - May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. - May access other facilities in various weather conditions. Required Education, Experience, & Skills - BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 10 or more years related experience - Each higher-level degree, i.e., master's degree and/or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education. - Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. - Significant experience in the following technology areas: - Flight-qualified avionics and sensor systems. - OpenVPX hardware design, integration, and test. - Sensor integration and test. - Embedded Linux tailoring, configuration, and deployment. - C/C++ embedded software development. - Work with different types of processors, e.g.: ARM development, GPU, FPGA development. - High-speed networking (including 100Gb InfiniBand and Ethernet, RDMA, RoCE). #LI-NP1 A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills - Experience with requirements derivation. - Experience in developing test, simulation, or data processing applications in high-level languages such as Python or MATLAB and utilizing AFSIM or JSE. - Experience with OpenBMC. - Experience using Cameo or PlantUML for Design. - DevSecOps. - Testing frameworks (gtest, ctest, test-driven development, hardware-in-the-loop). - A working knowledge of Agile lifecycles and activities in each phase. Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $136000 - $231200 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience. Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
