Director, Market Intelligence – CAISO/West

• Attend and participate in California ISO (CAISO) stakeholder meetings and, within days of each meeting, write succinct reports, with analysis where appropriate, on important presentations, announcements, discussions, and other developments from those meetings for internal and external clients. • As appropriate, tailor reporting and analysis according to clients’ commercial interests (e.g., generation, transmission, load, trading) and according to financial, policy, legal, and technical perspectives and considerations. • Independently identify and define issues according to clients’ commercial interests. • Recommend appropriate courses of action according to clients’ commercial interests. • Provide real-time reporting and analysis on developments with immediate and significant commercial impacts on clients. • Work closely with clients and stay familiar with their interests by addressing clients’ questions in a timely manner and conducting regular (monthly, quarterly) conference calls. • Attract, engage, and support clients through reports and analysis as well as consulting projects related to existing and emerging market design(s) for CAISO and other regions.
Job Requirements
- Minimum five (5) years energy industry experience required
- Relevant college degree required/graduate degree or advanced industry training preferred
- Wholesale energy market knowledge/experience regarding resource and transmission planning, generation interconnection, resource adequacy, and market design required
- CAISO and related ISO/RTO knowledge/experience required
- in-depth knowledge of Resource Adequacy (RA), Congestion Rent, Price Formation, and California's Extended Day Ahead Market (EDAM) preferred
- Knowledge of the California Public Utilities Commission Resource Adequacy (RA) policy framework preferred
- Markets+ knowledge preferred
- Strong writing skills required
- Experience writing under tight deadlines preferred
- Strong analytical/quantitative skills and experience required
- Strong verbal and public presentation skills preferred
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively required
- Business development orientation preferred
