As a 3D Artist, you will support the design and production of immersive Navy training solutions, including Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI), simulations, and 3D training assets. You will collaborate daily with Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs), Software Engineers, Tech Leads, and other creative team members to design, model, texture, animate, test, and integrate high-quality 3D assets into training applications developed in Unity or similar environments. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. Our 3D Artists contribute to the entire asset pipeline—from concept and modeling to optimization and integration—and regularly validate their work with Creative Leadership and project stakeholders. You will help shape the visual fidelity of Navy training products and ensure that all 3D elements support learning objectives, technical accuracy, and usability. Our ideal candidate regularly workshares their efforts with the Creative Director and Creative Operations team to maintain consistent style, quality, and performance across all products. You should be comfortable with critique, iterative design, and applying established brand, style, and performance standards. Duties and Responsibilities: - Create high-quality 3D models, textures, and materials for use in Navy training systems and simulations. - Produce optimized, game-ready assets for Unity or similar real-time engines. - Develop animations such as mechanical movements, character actions, or object interactions that support instructional effectiveness. - Collaborate with ISDs to ensure 3D assets accurately represent technical systems, equipment, procedures, and Navy operational environments. - Work closely with Software Engineers to support smooth integration and ensure assets meet performance, scale, and quality requirements. - Participate in design reviews with the Creative Director and Creative Operations team to maintain cohesive visual style and product consistency. - Troubleshoot issues related to rendering, asset performance, and real-time optimization. - Apply design thinking, problem-solving, and creative iteration to address ambiguous or evolving technical requirements. - Support testing, debugging, and refinement as 3D elements are implemented into training products. - Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Game Art, 3D Animation, Digital Media, or related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for degree. - Proficiency in industry-standard 3D software such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max. - Strong texturing and material creation skills using tools like Substance Painter/Designer or Photoshop. - Understanding of real-time asset creation principles, including LODs, polygon optimization, UV workflows, and PBR pipelines. - Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, developers, and technical team members. - Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex visuals or processes to diverse audiences. - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. - Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. Preferred Skills (Not Required): - Experience creating assets for Unity, Unreal, or other real-time engines. - Familiarity with Navy or DoD training environments, technical systems, or equipment modeling. - Experience producing animations for real-time applications. - Understanding of instructional design needs and how 3D visualizations support learning outcomes. - Knowledge of UI/UX standards for interactive training products. - Experience working with technical drawings, engineering references, or schematics. - Ability to create stylized, technical, or photorealistic asset styles as required. This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $87,394-$115,797. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.
