Property Liability Claims Adjuster Homeowners Liability (Renters & Condo) Are you a true liability adjuster—not just an estimator? If you thrive on investigating facts, applying state-specific liability law, and negotiating fair, defensible settlements, this role is built for you. We are seeking an experienced Property Liability Claims Adjuster to manage a caseload of low to moderate severity Homeowners Liability claims, primarily Renters and Condo, with typical exposures up to $20,000. This role focuses on non-litigated liability claims from first notice of loss through resolution and requires independent judgment, strong analytical skills, and confident negotiation. What You’ll Do - Manage an assigned inventory of Homeowners Liability claims, evaluating negligence, comparative fault, and compensability based on facts, investigation, and applicable state law. - Conduct and direct thorough investigations—reviewing statements, police reports (as data points only), evidence, and loss circumstances—to determine pro-rata liability, not assumed fault. - Apply state-specific comparative and contributory negligence laws, joint & several liability principles, and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. - Establish and execute an action plan on each claim aligned with best practices, internal protocols, and legal standards. - Assess policy language and coverage, clearly communicating any coverage issues to insureds. - Set, monitor, and recommend indemnity and expense reserves at appropriate levels, escalating outside authority when needed. - Evaluate actual damages and negotiate settlements within assigned authority, defending liability positions with confidence and logic. - Prepare clear, concise claim documentation and reports for internal stakeholders, clients, and brokers. - Partner with policyholders, claimants, attorneys, coverage counsel, and vendors throughout the claim lifecycle. - Identify claim trends and coverage or policy concerns and communicate insights to management and underwriting. - Stay current on evolving court decisions, statutes, and liability practices through ongoing training and education. What Sets You Up for Success in This Role We are looking for adjusters who bring liability reasoning, not just property knowledge. - Proven experience making independent liability decisions, including shared and disputed liability scenarios. - Strong investigative mindset—able to analyze loss dynamics, assumption of risk, and proportionate fault. - Confident, professional negotiation skills, especially when damages or liability are contested. - Ability to work autonomously while exercising sound judgment and accountability. Ideal Background - Auto Liability or Bodily Injury claims experience (including non-attorney and attorney-represented) with demonstrated progression in claim complexity This experience translates exceptionally well to property and homeowner liability. - Experience handling multi-state claims, independently researching and applying varying laws. - Comfort negotiating with attorneys, contractors, and other carriers. Note: This role is not aligned with CAT-only adjusting or field inspection/estimate-only backgrounds where liability decision-making and settlement authority were not part of the role. Minimum Qualifications - Active Adjuster’s License in all applicable states (or ability to obtain/maintain as required) - Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years of liability claims experience - Expert knowledge of comparative and contributory negligence, joint & several liability, and pro-rata fault - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities - Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple claims in a fast-paced environment - Self-starter comfortable working independently and making defensible decisions Why This Role? This is a role for adjusters who want to use their liability expertise, not just follow checklists. You’ll be trusted to analyze facts, apply the law, and negotiate outcomes that protect both the policyholder and the client—backed by solid investigation and judgment. If you’re looking for a position where liability knowledge, autonomy, and professional growth truly matter, we’d like to hear from you. Pay range: $56,200 - $94,100 #LI-Remote Pay Range: $56,200.00 - $94,100.00 Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
