As the Junior Underwriter working in a 100% paperless environment, you are responsible for reviewing certain conditions submitted by the loan processor after the conditional approval has been issued by the Senior D.E. Underwriter. The Jr. Underwriter evaluates the documentation provided by the processor and assesses the acceptability and clears the condition when acceptable. Junior Underwriters work daily with the Processing and Closing Departments to ensure that all loans and supporting documentation will meet FHA, VA, or GSE Guidelines (as applicable) from loan approval all the way through loan closing. How you will do it: - Reviewing documentation submitted by the processor to clear conditions on front-end residential mortgages (not loan modifications) for FHA, VA, and Conventional Purchases, Full-Doc Refinances, Streamlines, IRRRLs, and Construction-to-Permanent Loans - Analyzing credit, income, assets, property documents, and other conditions submitted by the processor after the loan is conditionally approved by the SR. Underwriter and either accept or deny documentation according to FHA, VA, or GSE Guidelines (as applicable) - Perfecting and Validating AUS loan data and numbers (typically LP), including confirming loan is still approved, as documentation is submitted by the processor - Updating Encompass loan file accurately throughout as documentation is provided - Clearing the Loan to Close by completing a final and thorough final review of the loan file including locking down approved loan terms, protecting loan documentation, clearing all outstanding prior to doc conditions, adding and editing prior to funding conditions, and completing the final clear to close checklist - Maintaining department set benchmarks and SLAs, while ensuring compliance and quality standards are met - Working Effectively with Closers/Funders, Processing, and Sr. Underwriting in different states and time zones to ensure workflow remains efficient while still maintaining loan quality - Adding value to the team by maintaining a positive attitude and remaining flexible as the manager balances the daily, weekly, and monthly workload, especially during peak business days - Assisting with other duties as necessary What you will need to join Cascade: - High School Graduate or Equivalent - One or Combination of the Following: 1) 2+ years front-end mortgage processing and/or underwriting experience or 2) 3+ years consumer loan processing and/or underwriting experience or 3) a combination of 4+ years originating, processing, and/or underwriting experience in consumer loan or residential mortgages - Detail oriented to carefully examine loan documentation for accuracy, acceptability, and completeness - Ability to work in a remote, work-from-home environment with little supervision, high expectations of productivity, and within strict deadlines - Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills - Familiar with Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook - Willingness to travel to our corporate office in Chandler, AZ up to 2x per year What Cascade considers a plus: - Loan Prospect Advisor (LPA) experience a plus - Encompass experience a plus - Manufactured Housing experience a plus - Conventional, FHA, and VA experience is a plus Best Candidate: The best candidate for the Jr. Underwriter position is someone looking for a long-term career path with growth potential in a family orientated company. Job Requirements
- High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- One or Combination of the Following: 2+ years front-end mortgage processing and/or underwriting experience, or
- 3+ years consumer loan processing and/or underwriting experience, or
- A combination of 4+ years originating, processing, and/or underwriting experience in consumer loan or residential mortgages.
- Detail oriented to carefully examine loan documentation for accuracy, acceptability, and completeness.
- Ability to work in a remote, work-from-home environment with little supervision, high expectations of productivity, and within strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
