Role Description Figma is growing rapidly and expanding globally, and our tax function is evolving to support that growth. As Manager, Indirect Tax, you’ll lead Figma’s indirect tax compliance and strategy across U.S. sales and use tax and global VAT/GST obligations. This role will take ownership of our indirect tax function, partner closely with Accounting, Revenue, Legal, and Billing Engineering, and help build scalable processes that support a fast-growing public company. This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States. What you’ll do at Figma: - Own and manage Figma’s indirect tax compliance, including U.S. sales and use tax filings, foreign VAT/GST obligations, and coordination with external advisors. - Monitor and assess nexus exposure, taxability rules, and regulatory developments across jurisdictions to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation. - Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Revenue, Legal, and Billing Engineering to ensure tax requirements are accurately reflected in billing systems, product offerings, and operational processes. - Manage indirect tax audits, notices, and inquiries, coordinating documentation and responses with internal teams and external advisors. - Lead process improvements and implement scalable solutions (including tax engines and automation tools) to improve efficiency and accuracy in tax reporting. - Oversee and develop a Senior Tax Analyst while ensuring high standards of execution across compliance and operational activities. - Strengthen internal controls and support SOX compliance related to indirect tax processes and reporting. Qualifications - 7+ years in indirect tax across public accounting and/or industry environments. - Deep knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax, including multi-state compliance, nexus analysis, audits, and exemption management. - Working knowledge of global indirect tax regimes (VAT/GST) and coordinating compliance across multiple jurisdictions. - Strong understanding of SOX controls and operating within a public company (or similarly complex) environment. - Demonstrated ability to manage or mentor others and collaborate effectively with external advisors. Requirements - Background in SaaS, technology, or other high-growth environments (preferred). - CPA certification or a Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting (preferred). - Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and tax engines such as Avalara or Vertex (preferred). - Exposure to M&A transactions, including due diligence and integration from an indirect tax perspective (preferred). - Interest in or experience improving tax processes through automation, analytics, or AI-driven tools (preferred). Job Requirements
- 7+ years in indirect tax across public accounting and/or industry environments.
