This position in Greenlawn NY is for a Technical Writer to write and assist with technical documentation including operator/maintainer and support equipment manuals, technical specifications, test procedures, and reports. In this role, you will assist in various special projects and contribute to the cross-functional team, with a focus on high quality solutions and task-closure. You should be technically adept and proficient with learning new software, working with hardware, and communicating with the team. Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration during the initial phases of employment, additional consideration will be given to candidates who are willing to perform work on-site at a BAE Systems facility until they have been acclimated to the technical writing processes and requirements at BAE Systems. Fulltime remote and Hybrid work will be considered for well-qualified candidates from the start of their employment and for those who demonstrate their ability during the first year. Required Education, Experience, & Skills - Ability to obtain an active Secret clearance or higher. - At least 2 years experience working as a Technical Writer, preferably in a defense industry. - Bachelor's degree in English/Communications or a technical discipline, a Technical Writing Certificate, or demonstrated excellence in technical writing and communication. - Ability to write using clear and concise language that adheres to standard practices and conventions. - Must be able to work independently to gather technical data from Subject Matter Experts and develop comprehensive materials with strong focus on logical flow of material and clear, consistent language. - Demonstrated ability to write original materials. - Strong computer publishing skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills - Highly skilled computer publishing skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Adobe Framemaker. - Experience using graphics software to develop or convert graphics for use in documentation. - Strong team mentality. - Familiarity with DoW technical manual requirements, and military products. Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $86580 - $147186 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience. Role Description We are currently seeking a seasoned technical assistance fellow for a senior-level position to direct technical assistance initiatives to support state educational agencies, tribal educational agencies, and local educational agencies in implementing evidence-based practices, strengthening the teacher workforce, and redesigning education systems to improve student outcomes. The fellowship program is designed to allow individuals working with other institutions and organizations to become formally affiliated with Child Trends. This position is not a full-time role, and outside employment or affiliations are expected. As part of our hiring process, we'll review outside affiliations for potential conflicts of interest and will reach out to candidates to discuss any concerns before moving forward in the interview process. Fellows will work closely with senior staff to develop and cultivate new technical assistance and capacity building projects in key priority areas. Fellows are also expected to mentor less experienced staff, provide quality assurance for products, and support proposal development efforts. The position is fully remote. Schedule is somewhat flexible and will vary based on availability of work, estimation of no more than 15 hours a week initially but could transition to FT if additional funding is secured. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: - Serves as the project director on one or more large federally funded technical assistance centers. - Leads successful proposals for large federal technical assistance contracts or cooperative agreements. - Develops relationships with local, state, and federal education officials and other external partners and conducts reconnaissance research ahead of potential bids. - Serves as a mentor and supervisor. - Leads the writing of reports, toolkits/playbooks, issue briefs, and other technical assistance products. - Develops and conducts presentations for diverse audiences, including researchers, policymakers, and state and local practitioners. - Supports best-place-to-work environment and participates in organizational events and meetings.
