Role Description We’re seeking a senior Business Intelligence (BI) Data leader who will be a key technical member of the data science team, responsible for both shipping production-grade dashboards & semantic models and managing/mentoring junior analysts. This role will expand Power BI as our source of truth, raise BI literacy across the org, and build the bench strength of the analyst team. The role will be responsible for leading 3-4 analysts as well as scaling Power BI governance and self-service. Insurance experience is strongly preferred. Position Responsibilities - Hands‑on Delivery (IC): Build and maintain production Power BI reports and semantic/tabular models; optimize DAX, star schemas, query folding, and refresh performance; own and continuously improve inherited portfolio items. - SQL & Data modeling: Author performant SQL for curated reporting tables in Snowflake; collaborate with Data Engineering on data modeling standards, release processes, and deployment pipelines (DEV/UAT/PROD). - People Leadership: Manage and develop 3-4 analysts through backlog grooming, 1:1s, growth plans, and code/design reviews; cultivate a culture of craftsmanship, curiosity, and accountability. - Delivery KPIs: Define and track clear KPIs for BI delivery (e.g., refresh reliability, stakeholder satisfaction, cycle time) and coach analysts to meet/exceed targets. - Governance & Enablement: Champion Power BI as the source of truth with robust access controls, versioning, certified datasets, and well‑defined semantic layers; enable self‑service through reusable templates, themes, and training. Lead BI literacy training across business units. - Stakeholder partnership: Act as the go‑to BI partner for operational leaders; translate needs into scalable datasets/dashboards tied to measurable outcomes and decision workflows. Establish meeting cadences with Product, Accounting, and BU leaders to prioritize work that drives measurable business outcomes. Qualifications - 7–10 years in BI/Data Analytics, including 3-5+ years leading/mentoring analysts or BI developers in production environments. - Expert Power BI: DAX, Power Query, tabular modeling, RLS/OLS, composite/direct models, deployment pipelines. - Strong SQL with experience in Snowflake or similar enterprise databases (Azure SQL, Synapse, Redshift, SQL Server). - Data modeling expertise: star schema, conformed dimensions, semantic layer design, KPI/metric governance. - Experience with governance and self‑service enablement: standards, certified datasets, documentation, and training programs. - Excellent stakeholder communication; executive‑ready storytelling; ability to translate business needs into scalable BI solutions. - Project leadership: backlog management, prioritization, delivery milestones, and risk management in Agile or hybrid environments. Preferred Qualifications - P&C insurance data experience with familiarity in the insurance policy lifecycle, underwriting operations, broker/agency performance, and financial analysis. - Familiarity with Amazon QuickSight (for legacy reports) and cross‑tool migration/standardization.
