Insurance/Billing Collection Assistant III – Department of Medicine – Business Office
WashU IT
• Performs advanced billing and collection activities • Acts as Lead IBC Assistant • Makes collection calls, verifying accuracy and completeness of claims, contacts insurance companies and collection agencies in regards to expediting payments • Handles discounts, adjustments and charge corrections • Reviews patient accounts for accuracy including insurance, eligibility, and invoice resolution • Utilizes Epic and payer websites for claim submission and inquiry • Supports customer service unit with billing and collection questions • Assists with training new staff • Consistently meets Quality Assurance standards
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience
- 3+ years of Billing or Insurance experience
- Skills: Claims Resolution, Collections Strategies, Computer Literacy, Confidential Data Handling, Epic EHR, Health Insurance Billing, HIPAA, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, Insurance Follow Up, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Terminology, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Office Equipment, Team Leadership, Telephone System

Role Description Insurance Specialists are highly focused on the resolution of insurance processing errors and denials and work to resolve hospital and physician billing challenges. You will utilize your expertise in patient billing, claims submission, and payer guidelines (Medicare, Medicaid, &, commercial insurers) to effectively work with insurance companies, resolve issues, and ensure accurate and timely payments.
