• Accountable for completion of complex actuarial or analytical projects, ensuring timeliness, compliance, and quality of work. • Provide proactive and strategic thought leadership of ways to improve processes, reduce risks, and meet department and enterprise objectives to achieve profitable growth and/or improve value, quality, and access for Blue Cross NC customers. • Achieve segment financial targets and provide concise explanations of results and variances to expectations; act as a financial steward for the company. • Communicate effectively with all levels and divisions within the organization, including Divisional Leadership. • Manage external partnerships with vendors, auditors, regulators, and health care providers, including effective negotiation of contracts and/or rates. • Develop and maintain strong business relationships with internal partners through business expertise and exceptional support; act as a strategic advisor. • Meet continuing education standards required for job function, thought leadership and maintenance of actuarial credentials.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required).
- Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
- 7 years of relevant actuarial experience, related experience may be considered.
- In lieu of an FSA, will consider candidates who are an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and have at least 9 years of relevant actuarial experience.
- Experience in Medicare Part D pricing with a deep understanding of Part D financial drivers strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with drug trend modeling and loss‑of‑exclusivity (patent loss) forecasting.
- Strong formulary strategy and analytics skills, including formulary composition, tiering strategy, and formulary impact modeling.

POSITION SUMMARY A Health Plan Actuary Manager applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, and principles of business to provide technical support for rating/pricing, valuation, reserving, healthcare economics, and/or financial forecasting. In this role, the actuary will assist the Health Plan Actuary build and test new actuarial models, assist with financial statements (including the Statement of Actuarial Opinion), and MLR calculations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Analyzing financial, statistical, and mathematical data and performing actuarial calculations. - Create monthly reports to support trend reviews, pricing, forecasting, reserving, and value creation. Build in efficiencies to decrease run time. - Consult with Tech team on how and what data should be accumulated - Developing customized pricing and valuation models for the Curative Health Plan in an efficient, scalable, transparent, and accurate manner. - Identifying and assessing risk in actuarial responsibilities. - Create reserving process and frequent monitoring to ensure reserve adequacy. - Collaborating with Finance, Underwriting, Risk Management, and Sales/Marketing teams to ensure models are updated as needed to improve underwriting performance while maintaining adequate reserves. - Providing actuarial support for internal and external reporting. - Calculating IBNR/IBNP. - Building of model enhancements and determining reasons for changes to calculated factors. - Designing predictive modeling tools to determine focus of future Health Plan wellness and cost-saving initiatives. - Supporting annual forecasting and budgeting efforts. - Performing special projects as directed by management including actuarial research, experience studies, and statistical analyses and calculations as required. - Other projects as assigned QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
