Revenue Cycle Management is looking for a Medical Coder to join our team! **Remote opportunity after in-person training** SUMMARY: The Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing medical documentation and accurately assigning CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and/or ICD-10-PCS codes depending on the encounter type. The position ensures accurate billing, compliance, and optimized reimbursement across outpatient and/or facility (inpatient) settings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes based on medical record documentation using CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and/or ICD-10-PCS. - Review provider documentation to ensure coding is supported and complete for billing submission. - Apply proper modifiers, sequencing, and coding conventions appropriate to the setting (inpatient or outpatient). - Ensure compliance with coding regulations, organizational policies, and HIPAA standards. - Meet coding productivity and quality benchmarks. - Collaborate with clinical, billing, and medical records teams to resolve discrepancies and reduce coding errors. - Assist with claim edits and coding-related denials as applicable. - Review and validate physician queries prior to provider contact. - Participate in audits, case reviews, and coding education sessions. - Contribute to continuous improvement of coding practices. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of coding guidelines, conventions, and regulations. - Ability to apply specialty-specific coding (e.g., bariatric, orthopedic, spine, cosmetic, pain management). - Ability to analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions. - Strong organizational and communication skills. - Proficiency with EHRs, coding software, and billing systems. - Knowledge of medical record-keeping and HIPAA compliance. - Attention to detail and accuracy in handling medical records. - Time management and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. - Customer service orientation when interacting with providers and clinical staff. - Understanding of medical terminology and procedural coding concepts.
