Who you are: As Senior Counsel at Hometap, you’ll collaborate with stakeholders across the company – including Product, Engineering, Sales, Operations, and Marketing – to solve complex legal problems in real time and enable the business to scale and grow. A strong candidate will have experience in consumer financial services, excellent judgment in balancing legal risks with business strategy, and a proven ability to advise teams in a fast-paced environment. You’ll thrive in this role if you’re an experienced financial services lawyer with a background in home finance, consumer regulatory issues, and a track record of providing actionable guidance in a cross-functional environment. What you’ll do: - Partner with and support business teams by providing advice on a range of laws and regulations, including those governing consumer protection, financial products and services, and digital advertising - Support the development and launch of new products, services, and partnerships - Ensure compliance with relevant state and federal laws and regulations, and assist in interpreting new and existing legislation that may impact Hometap - Provide pragmatic day-to-day advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business interests and ensuring an excellent customer experience - Support the legal team on other key initiatives ranging from capital raises to regulatory engagements What you bring: - J.D. degree, with 5+ years of relevant legal experience, with a minimum of 2 years in an in-house role - Experience with consumer lending products required, with a focus on serving as product and/or regulatory counsel. Mortgage lending experience is a major plus. - Strong understanding of financial services regulation, compliance requirements, and the overall consumer financial services ecosystem - Intellectual curiosity – you’re always looking to understand context and continuously improve - Fluency in translating legal advice into actionable guidance for innovative product and business teams - Ability to review, draft, and negotiate contracts at a fast pace with accuracy - Comfort with ambiguity and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment - Experience working with cross-functional teams while owning and driving projects from beginning to end - Leads with empathy in all internal and external communications - Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics Our team is what makes us great. The salary range for this role is $200,000 - $225,000, depending on your experience, skills, location, and other factors.
