Staff Data Scientist, Pricing

Airbnb

• Contribute to the development of a pricing guidance system for hosts. • Drive innovative pricing science through strategic initiatives, including early-stage and ambiguous 0-to-1 projects. • Collaborate with product and cross-functional teams to pioneer pricing strategies and guidance for hosts. • Develop foundational models and experimental approaches that balance supply and demand in the marketplace. • Craft compelling data narratives to surface actionable insights.

Job Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics or related field.
  • 9+ years of industry experience with Masters and 6+ years with a PhD.
  • Experience with experimentation, causal observational analysis, and pricing systems/marketplaces.
  • Strong coding skills in SQL and either Python or R. Comfort with developing proof-of-concept prototypes.
  • Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments, autonomously set a roadmap for business impact.
  • Strong in communication with XFN partners in product, engineering, and design to enable data-driven product development with a focus on the user experience.

Role Description The SCORe team is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support ecommerce retail operations, focusing on optimization and data science. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills in optimization and production-quality code development with a practical understanding of retail operations. This role most closely aligns with an Optimization Science / Operations Research skillset. - Research, develop, and implement optimization models that directly support live ecommerce retail operations at scale. - Write production-grade, computationally efficient code that supports near real-time decision-making for in-store and ecommerce operations. - Lead the development and delivery of analytical plans to support client roadmaps, ensuring the adoption of best practices and innovative ideas. - Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business objectives, designing and delivering best-in-class solutions. - Partner with engineering, product, and research teams to implement best practices for analysis, storage, and quality assurance. - Conduct analytic experiments and explore emerging methods to support project development and business objectives; share findings with the team. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, operations research, data science, or a related discipline. - 2+ years of experience developing and implementing optimization models, preferably at enterprise scale. - 2+ years of experience writing production-quality code in Python. - 2+ years of experience developing and deploying solutions on cloud platforms (Azure, Databricks, etc.). - Proficiency in querying and manipulating large datasets from relational databases. - Expertise in data wrangling, cleaning, and preparation. - Ability to present technical solutions to a non-technical audience. - Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills. - Grocery, retail, and/or ecommerce operations experience is a plus.
