Senior Director, Adult Literacy and Language Education
Center for Applied Linguistics
• Manage all aspects of CAL’s Adult language education portfolio, including assessment and PD. • Direct CAL’s English for Heritage Language Speakers (EHLS) program, and other ongoing Adult Language projects. • Lead CAL’s work in developing and implementing professional development services for adult language education. • Manage and supervise staff and contractors for CAL’s EHLS program, BEST assessment program, and adult education PD. • Collaborate and coordinate work with the VP for Programs and Development, and with CAL Directors in business development, including sponsored research proposals, and delivery of service activities. • Support CAL’s efforts to advance new and innovative techniques to expand the Adult Literacy and Language Education area. • Work collaboratively across the organization to expand CAL’s portfolio of contracts, grants, expertise, technical assistance services, experience, and reputation. • Plan and manage the financial performance of the ALLE (3300) and BEST (3200) accounts in contract and grant portfolios. • Monitor external and internal environment for development of new market segments. • Collaborate with Communications, on communication activities and marketing campaigns for services offered. • Represent the program area to clients, senior management, and external policy, research and development communities, including academia, the federal government, policy makers, and trade organizations. • Lead/direct the scope and execution of projects. • Manage and mentor project teams. • Participate in the organization’s budget processes to develop and review quarterly financial and activity reports to ensure that expenses are consistent with the approved budget and programmatic activities. • Participate and contribute to the Extended Leadership Team functions and activities. • Communicate with potential state, district and school contacts about the provision of CAL services.
Job Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, in a related field, with ten (10) years of relevant experience required, or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university, in a related field, is preferred.
- Minimum of six (6) to ten (10) years of experience including a minimum of five (5) years of program management and supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge/background/experience in adult language and literacy education.
- Experience in Adult Learning, Adult ESL Education or related fields.
- Experience in large-scale language assessment or related fields.
- Experience delivering publications and presentations on adult ESL education or related fields.
- Experience in managing a team including project management and budget management.
- Ability to lead business development resulting in the acquisition of major public and private funding.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with CAL President and senior staff.
- Outstanding skills in communicating across all levels of the organization.
- Ability in one or more languages other than English.
- Strong skills in client interaction.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
