Job Description
Director of Payments and Operational Excellence
SeedTrust
About Veratru Veratru serves as a critical financial partner supporting the federal "No Surprises Act." When healthcare providers and insurance companies disagree on payment for out-of-network services, they enter a structured dispute resolution process. While the arbitration administrators handle the decision-making, Veratru handles the money. We manage the complex flow of administrative and arbitration fees associated with these disputes. We are a technology-forward, process-driven company operating in a high-volume environment where accuracy and agility are paramount. About the Role You will lead and scale the operating system for high-volume payment processing, reconciliation, refunds, and exception handling. You will own the transition from manual processes to an increasingly automated, technology-enabled payments operation. You will combine operational leadership with a systems mindset: simplifying workflows, implementing tooling and automation, and building the metrics, controls, and documentation needed for accuracy and audit readiness. As the organization grows, you will hire, coach, and develop a high-performing team and create a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. How You Will Make an Impact - You will build and lead the payments operations function, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance development. - You will establish operating rhythms and measurable standards that drive throughput, quality, and predictability. - You will design and implement controls, documentation, and quality checks that reduce financial risk and support audit readiness. - You will improve end-to-end workflows for cash application, refunds, and reconciliations so manual effort decreases and accuracy improves. - You will partner closely with Accounting to deliver clean reconciliations and reliable close support. - You will own escalations by creating clear triage paths, coaching the team through complex cases, and driving root cause fixes. - You will lead automation initiatives that reduce manual work across payment processing, reconciliation, exception handling, and approvals. - You will partner with Product and Engineering to translate operational needs into clear requirements, prioritization, and successful releases. - You will set controls, audit trails, and documentation standards so processes remain compliant as systems evolve. You Will Be a Strong Fit If You Bring - Proven leader who has built or scaled high-volume financial or payment operations in regulated environments. - Strong accounting and operational foundation with hands-on experience in large-scale payments or reconciliation. - Hands-on, builder mindset with a track record of reducing manual work through process design and automation. - Strong problem-solving skills to research, resolve, and prevent complex payment issues. - Ability to translate operational detail into scalable, long-term solutions. Additional Requirements - Bonus if you have FinTech Experience - Must be based in the United States. - Ability to pass a comprehensive background check. - Bonus: Bilingual in English and Spanish. Position Location: Remote
