This description is a summary of our understanding of the job description. Click on 'Apply' button to find out more. Role Description We're seeking an experienced insurance billing specialist who has worked specifically with Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) claims for registered dietitian practices in the United States. This is not general medical billing—MNT billing has unique payer rules, coverage limitations, and coding requirements that differ completely from physician or behavioral health billing. You'll work independently to add ICD-10 codes to patient charts before appointments, submit claims to insurance companies, and resolve denials. This is a specialized role requiring someone who already knows US nutrition billing inside and out. Core Responsibilities - Pre-Visit Coding: Review referrals and assign appropriate diagnosis codes before dietitian appointments based on payer rules, clinical context, and coverage requirements. Ensure charts are billing-ready so providers never need to adjust codes post-visit. - Claims Management: Submit and track claims with major US commercial insurers and Medicare. Apply payer-specific rules for preventive vs. medical nutrition coverage, manage visit caps and unit limits accurately. - Denials & Problem-Solving: Investigate and resolve rejected claims by communicating directly with US payers, interpreting EOBs, and applying nutrition-specific billing knowledge. - Proactive Communication: Flag documentation gaps and potential billing issues before claims are submitted. Work independently across time zones with minimal supervision. Qualifications - Direct experience billing MNT or registered dietitian services in the US healthcare system - Proven ability to independently select diagnosis codes for nutrition services based on referrals and payer requirements - Working knowledge of US commercial insurance and Medicare nutrition benefits - Familiarity with nutrition CPT codes - Understanding of HIPAA compliance and handling protected health information - Excellent written and verbal English for communicating with US insurance companies - Reliable internet and professional home office setup Requirements - Not suitable for general medical billing, physician practices, mental/behavioral health, or PT/OT billing experience only. How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief cover letter addressing: - Your specific experience billing nutrition/dietitian services in the US - Whether you've independently selected diagnosis codes prior to patient visits - Which US insurance payers you've worked with for nutrition billing - Your location, time zone, and availability for US Central Time overlap Applications without clear MNT billing experience will not be considered.
