Your Typical, Atypical, Day Inventory Accounting & Control - Own inventory valuation, reconciliation, and cycle/physical count auditing across client portfolios - Ensure accuracy between physical counts and system records; investigate and resolve variances quickly - Apply and maintain appropriate costing methodologies (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average) by client and industry - Identify and reduce shrinkage, obsolescence, and carrying cost exposure Financial Reporting & Analysis - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP - Deliver detailed inventory reports, COGS analysis, and gross margin insights tailored to each client's business model - Build and maintain management reporting packages that drive real decisions, not just check compliance boxes Operational Optimization - Analyze supply chain metrics including inventory turnover, days-on-hand, and reorder points - Develop and implement procedures to prevent stockouts, reduce overstocking, and improve working capital efficiency - Partner with operations and fulfillment teams to align financial controls with day-to-day workflows Systems & Process Management - Lead ERP and inventory software implementations, migrations, and optimization projects - Train client staff on accounting procedures, controls, and system best practices - Maintain data integrity across platforms and ensure audit-ready records at all times Strategic Advisory - Serve as a trusted financial advisor to founders and leadership teams on cash flow, purchasing strategy, and growth planning - Provide budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling with particular focus on inventory investment and COGS - Proactively flag financial risks and opportunities — you're a partner, not just a reporter - Participate in developing and supporting strategic & financial plans - Support with new revenue streams - Due Diligence, ASC606, equity, GAAP compliance, Audit Preparation - Support pricing decisions. Provide analysis to determine appropriate annual bill rate changes. Review PCEs and client contracts and help determine payment schedules. - Provide overall financial oversight and monitoring, including weekly cash flow forecasting, monthly financial close, and annual budgeting process. - Oversee client risk management, business insurance, and legal activities, including customer contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements. - Manage all accounting operations, including invoicing, A/R, A/P, general ledger, and project accounting. - Manage month-end and year-end financial close process. - Monitor the financial performance of clients. - Prepare timely monthly reporting, including financial statements, project profitability, and team utilization. - Evaluate variances in business results against plans/targets and provide business insights to help drive management decisions. - Manage cash and required draws on the line of credit. - Oversee accounting processes and systems to improve controls and drive efficiency. Optimize existing financial systems (QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and Expensify) and/or adopt new financial systems as appropriate. Ensure all accounting processes and policies are well-documented. - Manage relationships with banks, tax accountants, and corporate insurance providers. - Manage, oversee, and execute administrative and operational functions. WHAT YOU BRING - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA strongly preferred - 5+ years of senior accounting experience in manufacturing, distribution, or e-commerce environments - Demonstrated expertise in inventory accounting — FIFO, LIFO, landed costs, shrinkage, and valuation adjustments - Strong command of GAAP and cost accounting standards - Hands-on ERP experience (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Cin7, Fishbowl, or similar); ability to get up to speed quickly on new platforms - Advanced Excel skills; comfort with data modeling, pivot tables, and reconciliation workflows - Experience managing multiple clients or business units simultaneously — you thrive with variety - Excellent communication skills; able to translate complex financials into clear language for non-finance stakeholders - Audit Experience required - Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field - Minimum of 10 years’ small company experience handling finance and accounting. - Previous experience overseeing human resources, payroll, IT, and legal preferred. - Superb written and verbal communication skills. - Strong computer skills, including MS Word, expert-level Excel, and QuickBooks skills, and the capacity to quickly learn and master new software. - Analytical and detail-oriented, and also has a strategic mindset - Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, confidentiality - Demonstrated resourcefulness and autonomy in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems - Capacity to juggle competing priorities and deadlines. The base pay range target for the role described in this job description is $90,000 - $120,000. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data.
