Role Description As a Senior Engineer, you will own the technical health and architectural evolution of mission-critical Java backends. You will act as the primary anchor for complex 3-tier architectures and SQL databases, orchestrating high-performance API integrations and modernizing system workflows. This role requires an autonomous mindset to navigate diverse codebases, provide clarity through documentation, and drive technical excellence across the delivery lifecycle. Your success is measured by system reliability, the proactive management of technical debt, and your ability to mentor and elevate the engineering team. - Lead the development of robust Java architectures, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability. - Design and evolve seamless RESTful integrations to automate and streamline enterprise workflows. - Manage SQL environments, focusing on schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning. - Elevate team output through deep code reviews, technical mentorship of mid-level and junior engineers, and clear communication with stakeholders. - Proactively identify technical debt, reverse-engineer complex logic, and implement modern methodologies to improve efficiency. Qualifications - 5+ years of dedicated backend development experience. - Advanced proficiency in Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate). - Strong experience in SQL database management, complex stored procedures, and performance tuning. - Deep understanding of CI/CD, Git, and cloud-native environments (Azure or AWS). - Proven experience with microservices or distributed 3-tier architectures. - Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal) for collaboration with US-based clients. - Mandatory experience in nearshore/offshore client-facing startup cultures. • Develop and maintain full REST APIs in C#/.NET 6+ using Entity Framework Core. • Implement and integrate payment flow solutions based on ISO 8583 messaging. • Ensure application and integration security using digital certificates and OAuth2. • Automate build, testing and deployment with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines. • Apply TDD and conduct integration and load testing to ensure performance and stability.

• Administer and optimize Kong Gateway (routes, services, plugins, certificates, rate limiting, logging). • Build and extend Kong plugins and manage Kong in Kubernetes (Helm/operator patterns, upgrades, config promotion). • Define API standards, review API designs, and manage OpenAPI (OAS) contracts, versioning, and governance. • Implement authentication and security patterns (JWT, claims mapping, key rotation, AD/LDAP integration). • Build and operate Kubernetes resources; manage AWS networking, compute, load balancing, DNS, and secrets. • Implement CI/CD and GitOps workflows, automated validation, and environment promotion. • Deliver observability: API metering, dashboards, logs/metrics/traces, SLO reporting. • Troubleshoot Linux/container issues and support on-call operations with runbooks and documentation.

• Design, build, and maintain backend services across the WalletConnect Pay platform — payment flows, APIs, data pipelines, and internal tooling. • Make sound architectural decisions for the services you own: API design, data modelling, error handling, and system boundaries. • Write technical design documents before major implementation work and participate in architectural reviews. • Ship production-quality code with strong testing, clear documentation, and attention to edge cases. • Own your services end-to-end: implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support. • Contribute infrastructure using AWS and Terraform. We don’t have a dedicated infra function, so engineers own their infra. • Build observability into everything you ship — logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting that meet the reliability bar of a production payment system. • Respond to and learn from production incidents, driving improvements to system resilience. • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Product, Design, Ops, Finance, Legal, and BD to turn requirements into clean implementations. • Participate in code review culture with AI-assisted development workflows, including automated agent reviews on PRs. • Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and team processes that help the Pay team scale.
