This is a remote position. Role Overview We are hiring a senior expansion leader to own the execution of multi-state growth for a rapidly scaling behavioral health organization. This is not a coordination role. This is not a strategy-only role. This role exists to ensure that expansion translates into real, timely, collectible revenueand that it does so without creating downstream chaos in billing, credentialing, clinical operations, or cash flow. Expansion in our business spans licensure, contracting, credentialing, recruiting, marketing, front desk readiness, and billing. The Head of Expansion Execution is accountable for orchestrating all of these elements in the correct sequence and has full authority to delay, pause, or accelerate launches based on operational readiness. If you have not personally lived through the consequences of poorly sequenced healthcare expansion, this role will not be a fit. Engagement Structure This is a U.S.-based contractor role with a flexible, phased time commitment. The initial phase (approximately the first 60–90 days) will require a higher level of involvement (around 20–30 hours per week) to build and stabilize the expansion systems and processes. Once a repeatable operating model is in place, the role transitions into an execution and oversight phase, with a reduced ongoing commitment of approximately 10–15 hours per week. What Success Looks Like (Non-Negotiable Outcomes) Within the first 6–12 months, this role will have delivered: ● Expansion states launching only when fully ready, not “almost ready” ● Faster time from state launch to first clean, collectible claim ● Fewer last-minute escalations and fire drills ● Clear, standardized expansion processes that leadership trusts ● Early visibility into risks, tradeoffs, and constraints—before they become problems This role will be judged on outcomes, not effort. Core Responsibilities End-to-End Expansion Ownership ● Own expansion timelines from pre-launch through early revenue realization ● Define, enforce, and continuously improve readiness criteria for: ○ Licensure ○ Group contracting ○ Credentialing ○ Recruiting alignment ○ Marketing launch ○ Front desk readiness ○ Billing setup ● Make final go / no-go decisions for all state launches Cross-Functional Leadership ● Serve as the operational lead for expansion across: ○ Clinical leadership ○ Credentialing ○ Marketing ○ Front desk ○ Billing and finance ● Department heads retain functional ownership but report into this role for all expansion-related work ● Run weekly expansion reviews with clear milestones, risks, and decisions Sequencing, Risk, and Tradeoff Management ● Identify dependencies and bottlenecks early ● Enforce sequencing discipline (what must happen before what) ● Escalate issues with clear options, recommendations, and consequences ● Prevent premature launches that create AR drag, compliance risk, or clinician frustration Systems, Process, and Tooling ● Build and maintain standardized expansion checklists, timelines, and trackers ● Improve or replace existing tools (Asana, spreadsheets, etc.) where justified by execution gains and cost-effectiveness ● Create a repeatable expansion playbook that improves with each launch Executive Communication ● Provide concise, decision-ready updates to leadership ● Maintain real-time visibility into: ○ Status by state ○ Risks and blockers ○ Upcoming decision points ● Eliminate surprises Authority & Accountability This role has the authority to: ● Delay or cancel expansion launches ● Require additional readiness work before proceeding ● Re-sequence expansion priorities based on capacity and risk This role is accountable for: ● Expansion timelines ● Speed to revenue ● Reduction in expansion-driven operational issues ● Quality of cross-department coordination Required Experience ● 7+ years in senior program, operations, or expansion leadership roles ● Direct experience leading multi-state expansion in healthcare ○ Telehealth, behavioral health, outpatient clinics, or similarly regulated environments ● Hands-on experience spanning: ○ Licensure ○ Contracting ○ Credentialing ○ Recruiting ○ Marketing ○ Billing ● Proven ability to lead senior stakeholders without formal line authority ● Strong judgment under ambiguity and pressure Strongly Preferred ● Experience expanding services across multiple U.S. states ● Experience in behavioral health or outpatient care ● Experience in growth-stage organizations ($3M–$20M+ revenue) ● Comfort saying “no” when readiness is not there ● Track record of turning expansion into predictable revenue, not just footprint What This Role Is Not ● Not a junior project manager role ● Not a meeting scheduler or note-taker ● Not an advisory-only position This role requires ownership, decisiveness, and credibility. Why This Role Matters The company is entering a phase where execution quality matters more than speed alone. Expansion is one of our most powerful growth levers—but only if it is done with discipline. This role exists to protect the business from scaling mistakes while enabling sustained growth toward middle-market status over the next 18–24 months.
