Britannica has been operating since 1768, and Merriam-Webster since 1831, and these digital-first brands now serve a global audience of more than 200 million users a month and over 14 million newsletter subscriptions – with reference and lifestyle content, games and interactive features. About the Role Britannica is looking for an Editor to help launch and run a new daily newsletter debuting later this year. This role owns the full editorial operation of the brand — from calendar planning through publication. The Editor will work closely with a broader team of newsletter editors while taking day-to-day responsibility for the execution, quality, and growth of their title. The ideal candidate brings strong editorial judgment, sharp writing and editing skills, and experience managing freelance contributors to maintain a consistent, high-quality publishing cadence. Location: Remote Key Responsibilities - Own the editorial vision and execution of a daily newsletter, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and a consistent brand voice - Develop and manage monthly editorial calendars, balancing evergreen, timely, and curiosity-driven content - Edit and oversee daily newsletter editions and web articles from pitch through publication - Manage freelance writers, providing clear briefs, constructive feedback, and editorial direction - Uphold rigorous editorial standards across fact-checking, research integrity, and style - Partner with growth, product, and sales teams to support newsletter performance and strategic goals - Use project management tools to track deadlines, workflows, and contributor progress - Contribute to editorial meetings with timely, relevant ideas and ongoing content strategy
• You will own the edit from rough cut to final delivery. • Edit videos, making sure to keep pace with the script and production pipeline. • Handle all standard post-production tasks: rough cut, fine cut, color grading, audio mixing, music and sound design, lower thirds, captions, and final export. • Export in the correct format and specs for each platform, including YouTube long-form, YouTube Shorts, and any other channels the content is adapted for. • Animate static visual assets provided by the graphic designer. • Apply motion graphics to support the narrative: animated text overlays, transitions, lower thirds, kinetic typography, and branded graphic elements. • Cut short-form versions of long-form videos or standalone short-form content for YouTube Shorts and similar platforms. • Coordinate with the content team on what to adapt and how, rather than making those decisions unilaterally. • Review scripts and storyboards before production begins. • Own the editorial call on whether a cut is ready.
