Director of Engineering

• Manage and support two direct reports — the Senior Software Engineer and Analytics Engineer — through regular 1:1s, goal-setting, and ongoing feedback • Serve as the primary engineering liaison on engineering requests from non-technical staff across the organization: meet with stakeholders, assess needs, translate requests into scoped projects with clear deliverables and timelines • Plan and prioritize engineering work across the team, balancing incoming requests against maintenance needs and longer-term reliability work • Oversee the Senior Software Engineer's work on Votivate, a proprietary internal voter file tool, providing technical direction and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities • Maintain and extend our suite of data pipelines, automations, and internal web applications, including ingestion (APIs / BigQuery mirrors), transformation (dbt / Python), orchestration (Prefect), and serving (Flask-based UIs) • Build new features and tools in response to organizer and campaign needs — such as configurable list pulls, voter contact syncs, or staff-facing dashboards — scoping and implementing these either directly or in collaboration with direct reports • Ensure all tooling is well-documented, intuitive for staff, and maintainable over time • Own day-to-day oversight of our engineering tech stack, including Prefect, GitHub, AWS, Google Cloud, and related tools and platforms • Ensure data systems are monitored, reliable, and resilient to failure; lead incident response and long-term reliability practices • Maintain CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments; manage cloud infrastructure provisioning and configuration • Work with The Movement Cooperative to ensure data from our tool ecosystem syncs reliably into BigQuery; build and maintain standalone syncs as needed

• Leads the strategy for building a fair, supportive, and high-performing workplace. • Ensure evaluations and the progressive discipline policy are utilized effectively to improve performance. • Monitor staff morale and organizational culture, identifying strengths to build on and areas where additional coaching and support are needed to strengthen teams and leadership. • Implement systems to bring visibility in supervision chains of onboarding, probationary periods, performance improvement plans, and grievances. • Implement practices that strengthen an impactful, collaborative, and values-driven workplace. • Ensure policies, systems, and day-to-day practices are aligned, and proactively anticipate when changes are needed. • Ensure equity and inclusion are built into systems, policies, and everyday practices. • Build strong, trusting, and collaborative relationships with Division Directors and Department Directors and EpicWorks partners. • Advise Division Directors and Department Directors on people strategy, organizational design, and culture to support impact. • Oversee staff development across the full lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, six month probationary period, growth, and retention. • Lead and support the full hiring process, including managing the Lever applicant tracking system, advising hiring managers, strengthening recruitment strategies, and supporting priority searches as needed. • Serve on the salary committee and coordinate offers for new hires and current staff role reviews. • Lead performance management systems, including role description updates, annual work planning and evaluations through Small Improvements, a culture of regular feedback, and the progressive discipline policy. • Set and uphold clear management and leadership standards, including leading the 360 evaluation process for managers, and lead the development of a new managers handbook. • Lead consistent communication and engagement rhythms for managers. • Lead regular Department Director and Manager meetings, manager onboarding, and annual training programs. • Lead cross-organization sabbatical planning in partnership with department leaders. • Lead the onboarding experience for new staff to ensure a strong and clear start. • Lead monthly all-staff calls and biannual in-person gatherings, including facilitating agenda-setting, content development, and coordination with key stakeholders. • Collaborate with the Executive Projects Manager on all-staff communication and engagement rhythms so staff understand priorities, progress, and how their work connects to larger goals. • Partner with the Executive Office Director on staff-facing communications from the National Director. • Lead the annual engagement survey and use staff feedback, including interviews and exit data, to improve the staff experience. • Track and share key staff data, including demographics, compensation, retention, and development. • Own the updating of the Employee Handbook and oversee other systems that help staff navigate the organization, access resources, and understand and do their jobs effectively. • Supervise tools and platforms such as the internal resource “Library” and “Wolfgang Botzart” chatbot to ensure information is clear and accessible. • Partner with EpicWorks teams to ensure staff can easily access HR, finance, and operations support. • Serve as a key point of contact for staff on HR-related questions and concerns, in partnership with the EpicWorks People Team. • Support managers through employee relations processes, including coaching and documentation. • Oversee investigations, performance improvement plans, corrective actions, and terminations as needed. • Maintain a strong, respectful relationship with the Workers United Working Families Party Staff Union. • Serve on the Joint Labor Management Committee with the Senior Advisor and EpicWorks Counsel and collaborate with union representatives. • Oversee implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and ensure compliance. • Partner with EpicWorks Counsel to ensure alignment with labor and employment policies and laws.

• Direct NY WFP’s Electoral Program, setting statewide objectives and ensuring accountability for results. • Oversee allocation of staff resources, budgets, and data management for statewide and regional electoral programs. • Maintain oversight of campaign and data vendor relationships, ensuring tools and systems are optimized for field operations. • Co-lead statewide strategic planning in collaboration with the State Director and national leadership, aligning New York’s initiatives with WFP’s broader mission. • Design and implement strategies related to membership, organizing, and electoral programs that advance long-term party-building goals. • Develop and oversee public WFP events that build the party’s profile and highlight steering committee leaders, elected officials and member representatives. • Design and maintain systems for campaign planning, data tracking, and rapid response to emerging political opportunities. • Establish protocols for evaluating project outcomes and integrating lessons learned into future plans. • Implement communication and coordination systems that ensure effective collaboration across statewide teams. • Supervise and mentor members of the New York team, providing strategic direction and performance oversight. • Facilitate effective team meetings, retreats, and planning sessions to align goals and priorities. • Lead and manage seasonal organizing teams that expand capacity during electoral campaigns. • Provide ongoing support and guidance to all staff, ensuring clarity of purpose and alignment with organizational values. • Develop individualized work plans and professional development pathways for staff that reflect both party goals and staff growth. • Foster an inclusive, collaborative team culture that prioritizes creativity, accountability, and excellence. • Co-manage New York’s finances and budget with the State Director, providing oversight of resource allocation and program spending • Ensure programmatic and electoral priorities are reflected in fundraising goals in partnership with the Director of Development • Lead statewide independent or coordinated electoral programs during election cycles. • Lead or guide regional priority campaigns with regional organizers • Direct special election campaigns, including staffing, field operations, and communications efforts • Ensure compliance with campaign finance and state election laws. • Ensure staff have the tools and systems necessary to execute their work effectively and efficiently

• Develop message and communications plans to advance priority campaigns; • Plan and execute internal and external communications to develop and grow our brand using earned, paid, and digital media; • Live in the news cycle; monitor risks and opportunities; seize real-time media opportunities to advance our values, position and brand; • Build relationships with print, broadcast, new media journalists, content creators, and ethnic media; • Anticipate, prevent, and, if necessary, manage crisis communications; • Coordinate with the national WFP communications team on strategy, narratives, and partywide initiatives; • Produce detailed reports of communications activities for staff and leadership; • Support State Director and staff spokespeople with talking points and media prep; • Draft talking points, op-eds, memos, and other materials, as needed.
