Job Description: Accountant Location: Allentown, PA Hybrid Full-time This position will be reporting to the Accounting Manager and based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Accountant is a critical member of the plant operations accounting team performing the accounting, reporting, and analysis of various PJM fossil and nuclear plant activities, as well as supporting the development and application of US GAAP accounting policies and maintaining internal controls. This position is responsible for accounting activity related to margins, capital projects, operating expense, and various balance sheet accounts. Responsibilities may involve activities related to new business initiatives as well as complying with the control (SOX) environment of the Company. The ability to correctly account for a wide range of activity and proactively identify and resolve accounting issues is a critical success factor for the candidate. The ideal candidate enjoys fostering teamwork, a collaborative approach with colleagues, and a strategic thinking environment which culminates in a “work hard and reap the rewards” culture of a Publicly Traded Independent Power Producer. Our office is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania and this position would work in a hybrid model with some flexibility for remote work. In this role, you’ll move beyond day-to-day contributions to drive meaningful change by: - Preparation of journal entries related to: o Energy and fuel o Fixed assets o Inventory – coal, oil, materials o Operation and maintenance expenses o Prepaid assets o Investment and equity activity o Monthly accruals o Maintain appropriate systems o General ledger o Fixed assets o Inventory - Perform and review account reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts, ensure accuracy of information and provide variance analysis - Prepares and analyzes financial statements and other internal/external financial reports - Prepares Balance Sheet and Income Statement Flux Analysis - Prepares and analyzes requested information in support of the audit requests - Assists in the preparation of financial statement workpapers - Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services. Solves more complex problems taking a new perspective on existing solutions - Ensures compliance with GAAP accounting and SEC reporting, FERC, NERC and OSHA requirements, State and Federal rules and laws, and support of any internal department requiring additional knowledge of the accounting department functions - Increases and applies knowledge of legal and regulatory issues and changes in accounting guidance What you have - High integrity and direct communication style - Demonstrated ability to interact well within a team environment and manage projects - Strong financial accounting, analytical and planning abilities with attention to detail - Proven ability to work independently and prioritize critical tasks - Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with various departments and managers - Ability to multitask and to remain calm and patient within compressed timelines - Accounting or finance degree (or equivalent); graduate degree is a plus - 3 – 5 years of experience preferred - Public Accounting experience within a large firm with SEC and/or power industry clients is a plus Why Talen Energy? Talen Energy is looking for a dynamic Senior Security Engineer. In this role, you will collaborate closely with IT and stakeholders, and various business units to ensure the security and integrity of the enterprise. You will audit configurations, integrate, manage, and monitor security controls and systems. You will proactively seek threats and vulnerabilities that drive the vulnerability management cycle. Develop IT security policies and procedures and implement necessary controls and procedures to cost effectively protect information technology assets from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction. Exhibit technical skill in configuring and maintaining cyber security tools. Oversee ongoing operations of security assets to ensure that a defense in depth security model is in place. Ability to deploy, manage and maintain all security systems and their corresponding or associated software, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, cryptography systems, and anti-virus/endpoint security software. Participate in penetration testing of all systems to identify system vulnerabilities. Ability to review logs for unusual or suspicious activity, interpret and make recommendations for resolution. Recommend, coordinate, and apply fixes, security patches, disaster recovery procedures, and any other measures required in the event of a security breach. Collect meaningful metrics and key performance indicators for reporting cyber security threats and trends. Focus on customer by providing business value. Build partnerships with key contacts in the business line by understanding their business needs, communicating these needs to appropriate IT staff, vendors, and consultants, and developing solutions to those problems. Produce communications both oral and written to a variety of audiences. Effectively interact on business or technical matters and convey complex and/or critical material in an easy-to-understand style and manner. Problem solving. Assure timely resolution of operational problems by utilizing effective problem management techniques. On-call rotation assignment. Occasional travel as requested. ​ What You Have Minimum Requirements Preferred Qualifications CyberArk EPM, Privilege Cloud CrowdStrike Falcon Identity Providers such as Okta, Entra ID, AWS Identity Center AWS Security Hub, AWS Inspector, GuardDuty Experience maintaining NERC CIP Compliance which includes maintaining NERC procedures and logs and other required documentation.
