Overview Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for an Associate General Counsel based in any of our U.S. offices and consideration given for 100% remote US locations. The Role: Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will work closely with other members of the Office of General Counsel (“OGC”) to assist in managing the legal affairs of the Firm and strategic planning for risk management, including preparing risk management policies, training materials, and templates, and advising on unique client engagement arrangements and client due diligence requests. The Associate General Counsel is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Orrick's client service standards and core values. The Objective: The Lateral Analyst III assists the Firm and its attorneys with compliance and risk management related to lateral conflicts, with an emphasis on lateral partner conflicts review. Responsibilities - Support the adoption, integration, and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) across the firm. - Develop and build generative AI workflows, use cases, and prompts for the practice of law, including identifying agentic use cases. - Create use case materials for different practice areas, roles, and phases of matters and engagements. - Expand prompt, workflow, and example libraries, including leading projects to identify content for inclusion and driving utilization by lawyers. - Collaborate with practice group innovation and practice support attorneys on the adoption and utilization of generative AI in their respective groups. - Train lawyers and timekeepers on AI, including 1:1 sessions, and serve as a subject-matter resource. - Help with the development and delivery of hands-on workshops, design-thinking sessions, roundtables, and other learning opportunities on AI and practice use cases. - Support efforts to build and maintain generative AI communities of practice across the firm, including project managing efforts to develop and scale technology ambassadors in practice groups. - Develop and maintain a robust understanding of the Firm's practice-related generative AI tools, including features, functions, limitations, enhancements, and roadmaps. - Assist with the development of best practices and other programs to help drive teams and tasks to the "right" resources. - Assist in vetting, piloting, and supporting the onboarding, rollout, and adoption of technology to support the legal practice. - Stay apprised of market changes, model updates, and best practices in the AI space. - Assist in communicating and consulting with clients on AI, generative AI, and other legal tech solutions for the practice. - Develop and maintain case studies for use in marketing and business development. - Contribute content to firm communications, submissions, portal pages and other resources relating to Innovation and legal technology. Qualifications - Juris doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited university or college and admission to practice in good standing in a US jurisdiction required. - Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an attorney in a law firm or comparable legal environment. - Strong technical skills and aptitude, including familiarity with generative AI, large language models, and machine learning in the practice of law. - Experience building and developing generative AI workflows, use cases, and prompts for the practice. - Experience with driving and supporting the adoption of legal technology. - Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex ideas to attorneys, managers, clients, and the public in layman's terms. - Familiarity with best practices and technology to manage workflows, documents, and communications. - Developed analytical, project management, prioritization, and organization skills. - Self-starter with the ability to work independently with good judgment, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and quickly prioritize projects. - Ability to work collaboratively at all organizational levels. - Flexible team player with ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation. - Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, coupled with a positive outlook; public relations and diplomacy skills must be excellent. - Availability to travel as necessary. - Desire and ability to work beyond the position's written duties and assist on other projects and initiatives, as needed.
