• Develop and lead Merlin’s government relations strategy, aligned with revenue and growth objectives • Build and maintain senior-level relationships across U.S. government agencies, including defense, aviation, and related stakeholders • Partner closely with the Chief Revenue Officer and Business Development teams to identify, shape, and advance opportunities within government channels • Support the development and positioning of Merlin’s capabilities in alignment with government priorities, missions, and funding pathways • Navigate and influence procurement processes, including traditional and non-traditional acquisition pathways • Collaborate cross-functionally with Strategy, Programs, Engineering, and Policy to ensure alignment between government engagement and product direction • Provide insights into budget cycles, policy developments, and funding opportunities that impact revenue strategy • Represent Merlin in meetings, briefings, and industry forums to strengthen credibility and visibility within the government ecosystem • Help drive capture strategy and deal progression for key government programs • Develop clear internal reporting and external-facing materials to support executive and Board-level visibility

• Design and implement flight controls for our aircraft autonomy system • Write requirements for high level automation functions and low level flight control • Help create and use the simulation tools needed for development and testing including Simulink control law modeling, analysis using MATLAB and Python • Participate in flight testing to verify control law performance on multiple aircraft types • Write, test, and document Simulink control law models according to Merlin’s development standards • Collaborate across Merlin to develop novel, certifiable systems to solve the toughest problems in aviation and autonomy

• The System Safety Engineer is responsible for developing and coordinating multiple activities of the system safety process for multiple Merlin products. • Employs safety analysis techniques (in alignment with SAE ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882) on the engineering products. • Works with peers to analyze safety-critical systems, hardware, and software to support development safety and compliance demonstration • Flows down safety requirements to the development teams and peers, and ensures they are appropriately captured and implemented in the design. • Prepares and delivers analyses and assessments, and participates in safety review meetings, system design meetings, and change board meetings. • Works in a team environment by providing inputs to engineers, performing analyses, and writing reports.

Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in a Technical field preferred, or equivalent Systems Safety experience - 8+ years of experience utilizing system safety techniques for safety critical systems, such as avionics/autoflight systems. - Experience with safety assessments and analysis for Part 23 or Part 25 STCs or TCs involving high-criticality aerospace systems that utilized software and airborne electronic hardware (including CEH devices), such as powered Flight Controls, Flight Management System, and Display Systems. - Previous experience working with SAE ARP4761 Nice to Have: - Experience interfacing directly with civil certification authorities and/or military certification authorities (FAA-DER or ODA UM) is a significant advantage. - Previous experience working with SAE ARP 4754A, RTCA/DO-178B/C, RTCA/DO-254, MIL-STD-882 - Practical experience in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering preferred - Experience working with automatic flight controls is a plus - Experience with software development - Experience with MBSE/MBSA - Strong interpersonal and technical writing skills - Ability to work in a self-directed manner Merlin Labs offers an innovative, entrepreneurial, and team-focused startup environment. • Design, build, and integrate onboard and off-board airborne perception capabilities to enable autonomous flight and decision making. • Work closely with the R&D software engineering manager to understand team objectives, short term milestones, long term milestones, and technology roadmap. • Support architecture design and perform architecture and technology trade-off analysis for perception subsystems. • Drive sensor, integration, and algorithm approaches for perception subsystems. • Establish and maintain infrastructure and processes to support development, testing, and evaluation of traditional and machine learning based algorithms. • Collaborate closely with the rest of the R&D software team throughout the research, design, implement, and test cycle. • Write, test, document and review code according to Merlin’s development standards as needed. • Collaborate across Merlin to develop novel systems to solve the toughest problems in aviation and autonomy.

• Collaborate with domain leads to develop and deploy novel teaming capabilities that measurably enhance the performance, safety, and resilience of human-machine teams. • Support applied research and human subject experiments to evaluate human-machine teaming capabilities in realistic operations. • Contribute to simulation, integration, and flight test activities to validate autonomy software in relevant environments. • Write, test, document and review code according to Merlin’s development standards. • Collaborate across Merlin to develop novel systems to solve the toughest problems in aviation and autonomy.

• Design and develop flight-critical software using Simulink, Stateflow, and related MathWorks tools for model-based design. • Define software architecture, modeling standards, and development workflows aligned with DO-178C and DO-331. • Create, maintain and review software requirements, models and auto-generated code. • Ensure robustness and traceability through requirements-based design, verification, and certification artifact production. • Collaborate with engineers from cross functional groups such as systems, safety, hardware, flight controls and test to ensure product and program level needs are met. • Support integration into CI pipelines, including model checks, code generation, static analysis, and automated verification. • Contribute to planning and execution of SOI audits and certification reviews. • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for software requirements, architecture and design decisions • Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), processor-in-the-loop (PIL), and flight testing activities.
