Narrative Research Specialist

Role Description Research and analyze different strategies to amplify otherwise overlooked immigrant issues. Engage with Justice Action Center (JAC) plaintiffs and other impacted individuals to create content that centers migrant voices; using storytelling strategies to support the communications, litigation, and research work of JAC. - Apply research expertise to help shape public narratives. - Work closely with plaintiffs and other directly impacted individuals to engage in interviews for fact gathering and to empower individuals to tell their own stories to target audiences. - Work with litigators and communications staff to track and explain emerging legal threats to immigrant inclusive measures. - Develop and maintain a story bank for communications and litigation use. - Amplify the work of our coalition partners and breaking immigration news. - Work with the legal and communications team to utilize information received from FOIA requests and lawsuits to help the public better understand issues immigrants and asylum seekers face. - Research and document the history of various messaging strategies within the immigrant rights movement in a report to present to partner organizations. - Research and report on existing narratives on asylum and migration. - Participate in communications and narrative research to help develop immigrant-inclusive narratives for advocates to utilize. - Help present data or other information in a user-friendly manner, thus allowing non-legal actors to better understand complex facets of the immigration system. - Assist with development of other messaging research projects, including focus groups, polls, and other tools. - Position is fixed location based in Los Angeles, CA office; however, telecommuting from a home office is allowed. Qualifications - Requires a Ph.D (or foreign equivalent) in humanities or humanistic social sciences or a directly related field. - Must be fluent in Spanish. Requirements - Leading research design, designing interview guides and conducting qualitative research. - Conducting interviews, transcribing interviews, coding and analyzing qualitative data. Program Manager

Role Description Engage with prospective and retained clients, build trust with clients, and provide client support throughout the lifespan of the litigation. - Interview clients in a client-centered and trauma-informed fashion and prepare summaries of their statements. - Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provide written analysis to attorneys. - Prepare client communications and other litigation support documents, such as: - plaintiff profiles - outreach email templates - notes from calls with co-counsel or clients - summaries of evidence - spreadsheets to organize and track information - Evaluate and optimize workflows to support JAC's impact litigation and the collaboration between JAC's legal and communications departments. - Provide support for JAC’s class action litigation, including developing workflows for communicating with a certified class of upward of a million class members in multiple languages through: - e-mail - social media - a dedicated website - Create, maintain and optimize database of judges. - Decode legal cases to post on the litigation tracker. - Provide input on updates and improvements to the microsite structure. - Audit the current process for content creation/approval/distribution between the legal and comms teams around the microsite and newsletter and identify any areas for improvement. - Serve as a liaison between the legal and comms department on suggested improvements and updates. - Integrate and manage the litigation tracker newsletter into the editorial calendar. - Track relevant court cases, review updates, determine which ones are relevant and provide updates to stakeholders. - Provide input on designing and optimizing systems for structuring the database. - Identify areas of improvement for making all data as accessible and searchable as possible for use. - Provide suggestions for any additional data points to collect. - Provide sources for additional stories as they arise through working with clients. - Network and establish relationships with organizations that work in the immigration space. - Participate in coalition calls and in-person meetings as a representative of JAC. - Share information learned with internal JAC stakeholders. - Host meetings and events on behalf of JAC as needed. - Position is fixed location based in Los Angeles, CA office; however, telecommuting from a home office may also be allowed. - 10% domestic travel for work-related events. Qualifications - Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Public Policy, Public Administration or a directly related field. - Plus one (1) year of experience as a Program Analyst, or in a similar role working with U.S. immigration. Requirements - Must have one year of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently): - Working as a Program Analyst with U.S. immigration. - Working with immigration databases and statistics. - Working with immigration data science or database management. - Working with or in support of immigrant communities. Digital Communications Manager

Role Description The Digital Communications Manager is a strategic and hands-on professional responsible for helping drive the organization's digital presence and engaging with key audiences, especially through social media and email marketing. They will be focused on developing and executing strategies that increase brand awareness, grow our digital audience, and drive meaningful engagement. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer with a strong understanding of email marketing, social media management, and digital analytics, as well as a passion for JAC’s vision and mission. Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Plan, create, and schedule weekly social media and email content, including advanced preparation and day-of execution of rapid response digital assets as cases develop. - Monitor and report on campaign-specific social media, email, and website analytics and use data to inform future strategies. - Develop and execute integrated organic and paid social media strategies to reach new audiences and grow reach, engagement, and conversions. - Manage and maintain JAC’s social media accounts, including publishing, monitoring, and community engagement. - Develop influencer campaigns and maintain relationships with content creators. - Develop and implement an integrated email marketing strategy aligned with client communications, advocacy, narrative change, legal decoding, and fundraising goals. - Build and deploy compelling email campaigns in EveryAction, such as newsletters, fundraising appeals, client updates, automated journeys. - Create audience segmentation strategies to deliver targeted and personalized content to different audience groups, such as directly impacted communities, advocates, clients and class members, and donors. - Maintain JAC’s contact database and audience segments, ensuring data accuracy, compliance, and integrity. - Strategize and execute list growth initiatives to increase the size and quality of our email audience, spokespeople, storyteller, and donor lists. - Stay current with social media trends and algorithm/platform changes, as well as best practices for contact data hygiene and compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., CAN-SPAM, GDPR). - Develop partnerships and engage with external stakeholders to develop long-term digital communications projects. - Ensure a cohesive, user-centered experience across all digital channels and campaigns. - Incorporate the narratives of directly impacted community members from JAC’s story bank into long-term digital strategy. - Provide additional copywriting, campaign support, and team coordination, including supervision and event participation as needed. - Coordinate with the Digital Director to ensure all digital assets are on-brand, high-quality, and ladder up to JAC’s overarching goals. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English Literature, or a related field. - 4+ years of professional experience in digital communications/marketing, with a focus on email marketing and social media management. Requirements - A proactive, data-driven, and creative problem-solver, who enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives. - Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive messages and decode difficult concepts for a lay audience. - Expert proficiency with email marketing platforms, proven track record of successfully managing and growing email lists (EveryAction experience preferred but not required). - Strong experience managing social media platforms and related tools. - Highly organized with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. - Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams. - Demonstrated success executing online advocacy campaigns or storytelling projects. - Proficiency with Canva or similar design tools. - Proficiency in Spanish preferred but not required. - Familiarity with immigrants’ rights or legal advocacy is preferred but not required.
