The Role We’re looking for an Engineer who thrives across the stack. Someone comfortable writing Go services and building a front-end to consume them . You’ll be taking on significant features across our engineering organization including our next-generation streaming platform that delivers interactive content to players in real time. You’ll help architect, build, and scale the systems that power this experience end-to-end. What You’ll Do - Design, build, and maintain backend services in Go that support both ongoing and future Jackbox Games needs - Develop front-end features and interfaces that connect to live backend systems, ensuring smooth player-facing experiences - Own and operate services in a live, always-on production environment including monitoring, incident response, and on-call rotations - Model and optimize relational database schemas for performance, reliability, and scale - Collaborate with game teams, designers, and product managers to translate creative ideas into solid technical solutions - Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement of our engineering practices - Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment tooling What We’re Looking For - Less than 2 years of professional software engineering experience across front-end and backend systems - Strong proficiency in Go for backend/service development - Hands-on experience designing and querying relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) - Proven track record operating live services with high-availability requirements (24/7 uptime, SLAs, on-call) - Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and/or gRPC services - Comfortable working with modern front-end frameworks (Vue, Typescript, NuxtJS) - Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and how the SDLC interacts with them - Strong debugging, profiling, and observability skills (logging, metrics, tracing) - Experience with real-time streaming protocols (WebRTC, HLS, RTMP) or low-latency media delivery - Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ) - Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi) - Contributions to open-source projects or a visible engineering presence (blog, talks, classroom projects, etc.) We value kind, motivated, and creative people. Role Description As Controller, you’ll be the steward of Jackbox’s financial health—owning the systems, processes, and reporting that keep the business running smoothly. You’ll ensure accuracy and transparency in our financials while turning numbers into insights that drive smarter decisions across the company. This role goes beyond maintenance—you’ll help build and scale our financial infrastructure as we take on new initiatives, partnering closely with leadership to shape systems, policies, and strategy for what’s next. - Own the accuracy and integrity of our financials, from general ledger to monthly close - Lead day-to-day accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll, banking) with precision and efficiency - Drive tax compliance across corporate and sales tax, partnering with external advisors as needed - Strengthen internal controls and support audits to keep us compliant and confident - Identify and implement process improvements that help finance scale alongside the business - Build and manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes - Deliver clear, actionable reporting for leadership, the Board, and investors - Directly manage and mentor our Staff Accountant, supporting their growth and day-to-day work Qualifications - 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller or senior accounting role - Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and financial reporting (CPA strongly preferred) - Strong command of sales tax compliance, nexus rules, and multi-state filings (Avalara a plus) - Experience managing corporate tax processes and external advisor relationships - Proven ability to lead accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll) with accuracy and efficiency - A sharp eye for detail and a commitment to clean, reliable financial data - Experience with modern accounting systems and ERP platforms - The ability to translate financial data into clear insights for non-finance partners - A track record of improving systems, processes, and controls - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities - A collaborative mindset and comfort working cross-functionally Benefits - Pay range: $160,000 - $180,000.
