Role Description As a member of the E-Learning and Assessment Department, the Instructional Designer I is the ProdDev expert responsible for applying learning science and other related disciplines to the design and development of learning products. These products may include comprehensive ancillary suites supporting textbooks as well as standalone digital courses and other instructional offerings that provide high-quality learning experiences for instructors, students, and professionals seeking information about physical activity and sport. Working collaboratively with authors, subject matter experts, editorial staff, and publication services partners, the Instructional Designer I leads the instructional design of these products. Essential Functions - Lead the instructional design and development of assigned learning products, including standalone digital courses and instructional offerings to support textbooks. - Act as primary contact person for authors, acquisitions editors, editorial staff, and other HK staff on assigned projects. - Collaborate with acquisitions staff, editorial staff, authors, and other stakeholders to conceptualize projects during the acquisitions or writing stages. - Provide acquisitions staff with accurate guidance about the time and cost required to implement project objectives. - Develop prototypes or proofs of concept when appropriate and provide examples from inside or outside of HK to show possible approaches to meeting project objectives. - Develop clear and effective author or subject matter expert writing instructions for instructor- and student-facing ancillary materials. - Analyze textbook content, learning activities, assessment materials, and descriptions of media across assigned learning products. - Articulate recommendations that improve engagement, effectiveness, accessibility, and instructional alignment. - Ensure assigned ancillary or course projects demonstrate sound instructional structure and organization. - Provide instructional feedback to authors and subject matter experts when needed. - Collaborate with editorial staff to ensure ancillary cross-references are integrated within the book. - Review marketing promotional copy as requested to ensure descriptions of ancillaries are accurate. - Collaborate with ELAD Project Lead and editorial staff to ensure milestone dates for ancillary projects align with textbook schedules. - Identify items that need permission in assigned materials and collaborate with Production Editor or Permissions Manager. - Ensure projects are properly revised, accurate, and complete before initiating the copyediting phase. - Select or conceptualize media elements that appropriately support instructional objectives. - Build and refine a wide range of learning products using established departmental tools, templates, procedures, and guidelines. - Consider evolving accessibility guidelines for digital content during production stages. - Make corrections and revisions accurately based on reviewer comments and product testing. - Contribute to HK's profitability by working productively and ensuring assigned project timelines and budget expectations are met. - Suggest improvements to ELAD processes or systems to increase efficiency. Secondary Functions - Write well-written, discerning test items to assess comprehension/mastery of course learning objectives. - Integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into the instructional design process. - Keep informed of publishing technology and educational technology trends. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, information systems, sport sciences, or a related field required. - A Master's advanced degree in instructional design, educational technology, or curriculum development preferred. Requirements - 2+ years of professional experience in instructional design or learning product development. - Demonstrated knowledge of learning design principles grounded in cognitive psychology. - Experience designing instructional materials aligned with defined learning objectives. - Experience collaborating with authors, subject matter experts, or cross-functional teams. - Familiarity with digital accessibility guidelines and standards for online content. - Experience using instructional design tools, content development software, or learning management systems. The full salary range for this position is $83,900 to $106,800 per year. We expect to hire in at a salary range between $83,900-$95,000. Human Kinetics is headquartered in Champaign, IL. This position is eligible for on-site, hybrid, or fully remote work. Job Summary The ERP Business Analyst II at Human Kinetics (HK) has a direct impact on the operational success of the business. Operating from the IT Department, the ERP Business Analyst II supports, maintains, and advances HK business processes by defining and suggesting improvement of systems involved in end-to-end business processes—from product development and procurement through fulfillment, invoicing, and financial reporting. The ERP Business Analyst II works across several technologies and disciplines, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Power BI, EDI, E-Commerce, SQL databases, SharePoint, and CRM. This role blends business process expertise, technical system understanding, and cross-functional communication. The analyst translates business requirements into ERP configurations, reporting solutions, and integrations while ensuring data integrity, scalability, and alignment with organizational goals. Essential Functions Design and configure solutions within HK's ERP framework to support business process improvement. Provide daily support for internal ERP users, documenting resolutions within our helpdesk system. Analyze root cause of issues and design corrective and preventive actions. Provide ERP support for all facets of the business. Serve as primary interface for projects and requests involving the ERP vendor. Perform data gathering, root cause analysis and performance trend analysis to develop appropriate process changes. Work with DBAs to support data syncing, data warehouse population and data feeds from the ERP to external applications. Function independently based upon a solid understanding of specific business processes and functionality of the HK ERP. Promote a culture of continuous improvement in business processes, methods, tools, and resources. Properly document changes and additions as well as document/maintain existing processes, code, work instructions and other key functions. Assist and advise business users and IT team adhering to HK's Code of Cooperation. Provide a professional “Customer Service” attitude that has a high focus on sense of urgency. Analyze usability and manageability of business processes. Provide systems/staff support on business intelligence/data analysis reporting in Power BI reports.
