The successful candidate will not be considered an employee, agent, partner, or joint venture of Victor Community Support Services.* JOB SUMMARY: The Consulting Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, serving as an independent contractor, provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management for children and adolescents through in‑person and/or telepsychiatry services. The role includes ongoing treatment review, consultation on client plans, staff training, on‑call availability, and collaboration with agency leadership to support safe, effective psychiatric care. The incumbent must be a licensed physician who has completed psychiatry residency training, holds an active state medical license and DEA registration, and meets all state and federal requirements for prescribing and, if applicable, telepsychiatry services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In Person/Telepsychiatry services: - Provide an assessment as a part of the initial assessment including, but not limited to treatment recommendations, diagnosis, medication evaluation and prognosis; see every child on psychotropic medication at least once every six (6) weeks. - Review the course of treatment for children on psychotropic medication, at minimum every six weeks unless otherwise indicated in the progress notes. The results of these reviews shall be documented in each child's record within five (5) working days (72 hours of services rendered) after the review. - Assure that prescribed medications are in accordance with the goals of the Client Plans and/or Problem List and relate to a specific mental health treatment area. - Prescribe medication as required. - Additionally, the psychiatrist may consult on the development of a Client Plan and/or Problem List and other written material as deemed necessary by the Executive Director. - Provide consultation and collaboration with Treatment Team Members. - Provide in-service training of treatment staff as may be required. - Be available for On-Call/ After Hours Consultation. - Provide a written initial assessment which includes a history of medications prescribed in the past and their results, including a progress note each time the client is seen, or consultation is provided to assess the client's need for ongoing, or the initiation of, psychotropic medication. This review shall include, at minimum: - Date of service - Service function - Location of service - Duration of service - Description of service provided describing what was attempted and/or accomplished at the time the service was provided - Description of the client's response to medications, side effects MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Must have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from an accredited medical school. - Must be licensed in the State of California, including for telepsychiatry. - Board certification in Psychiatry issued by the Medical Board of California. - Completion of an ACGME‑accredited Psychiatry residency program. - Active DEA registration to prescribe Schedule II–V controlled substances. - Must have good oral and writing skills in the English language, including the ability to write concise, informative professional reports and assigned documentation in a timely manner. POSITION/SITE REQUIREMENTS: - Must possess a valid California driver's license, personal automobile insurance and driving record that meets the standards outlined in the Agency’s Policy: Motor Vehicle Operating Standards. - Must be physically and mentally fit in accordance with the Agency’s Policy: Physical Fitness Standards and Examinations. Must be willing to complete a Tuberculosis (TB) test and drug screening test. - Must be willing to complete a personal background investigation conducted by the State of California. - Must be willing to work within a culturally integrated workplace and be willing to respect human differences based upon protected classes as defined by state, federal and local laws, or any other condition that distinguishes people from one another. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Have an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in a residential, office or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), alternating between standing and sitting for extended periods of time, bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching balancing and occasional carrying and lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and up to 10 pounds frequently. - Physically able to walk up and down stairs routinely. - Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time in a vehicle for traveling to sessions in the office, clinic or other community setting which may be up to 100 miles driving distance. - Requires the ability to utilize computer and telephone systems, which includes the coordination of eye and hand and fine manipulation by the hands and fingers for typing, writing and working with files.
