Role Description The Graphic Design Manager is responsible for managing the design, creative development, and production of print and digital assets in support of ASA’s brand and product portfolio. Oversees the process from concept to completion for each project. Leads the graphic design approaches for ASA marketing, communications, publications, meetings, education, and other business units—providing strategic guidance, art direction, and layout services for collateral materials, products, promotions, and other content. Establishes and manages the centralized workflow and resources for graphic design and production services, internal and external. Oversees ASA’s graphic standards and brand compliance throughout the organization. Directly manages graphic design and visual communication needs for monthly news publication, ASA Monitor. Manages and upholds ASA photography standards and related needs for annual meeting, governance, and special events as well as special projects for Organizational Excellence, the ASA foundations, and various ASA business units and member leadership. Responsibilities - Manages all graphic design needs for monthly news publication, ASA Monitor, working directly with Editor-in-Chief, Director of Publications, and the publications team. - Supervises Graphic Design and Production Specialist, building a successful graphics and production team. - Collaborates with Marketing and Communications, Public Relations, and other business units to discuss and deliver on graphic design needs. - Leads creative team in the concept, design, layout, and production of marketing and promotional collateral. - Establishes and upholds graphic design best practices for digital-only, print-only, and cross-platform applications. - Manages procurement and presentation of all ASA photography, original and stock. - Designs and produces ASA Annual Report and ASAPAC Annual Report. - Collaborates with publishing partner and ASA publications team on monthly production schedule. - Manages all elements of vendor relationships, including securing quotes and approving proofs. - Works with Anesthesiology journal Senior Managing Editor and Editorial Board members for design work. - Delivers graphic design and production pieces for other business units as needed. - Manages work team and resources, establishing processes to field incoming creative requests. - Stays up to date on all current trends and innovations in design and typography. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, or related field highly desired. - Minimum of 5 years of graphic design experience. - Previous supervisory experience preferred. - Health care, medical, and association experience preferred. - Familiarity with email marketing platforms preferred. - Strong computer proficiency, including cross platform experience required. - Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is required, especially Photoshop. - Knowledge of workflow management tools preferred. - Experience working with vendors required. - Knowledge of production processes, printing, and mailing required. - Ability to produce high quality and error free work. - Ability to think creatively and innovatively. - Ability to work in fast-paced environment and keep to strict deadlines. - Highly developed professionalism and interpersonal skills. - Ability to organize and analyze insights, communicate with stakeholders, and develop recommendations. - Demonstrate personal integrity in interactions with vendors and members. Compensation This position is an exempt/salaried position. The target hiring pay range for this position is: $94,000 - $115,000 annually. This position is not eligible for a yearly bonus/incentive. Compensation decisions consider a wide range of factors, including relevant experience, skills, certifications, business needs, and organizational policies. The Publications Coordinator works closely with the Director of Publications and Senior Managing Editor, Journals, to support the Publications department in its delivery of an extensive portfolio of eNews communications tools and widely read print and online publications. The Publications department manages leading high-quality member resources to advance the specialty and make research more accessible. Monitor the Anesthesiology Open editorial pipeline and highlight for the Senior Managing Editor any issues related to the timeliness or execution of all stages of the peer review process and production. Report on journal performance data in weekly meeting with the journal team. Monitor transfer invitations sent by Anesthesiology to Anesthesiology Open. Send templated follow-up messages and coordinate with the Executive Editor to send customized outreach emails as needed. Participate in editorial board meetings and functions for the Anesthesiology Journals. In collaboration with Senior Managing Editor, coordinate activities and meetings of the Anesthesiology Open Editorial Board. Coordinate general communications with the Anesthesiology Open Editorial Board. Maintain spreadsheet of Editorial Board member terms and send annual appointments and agreements communications. Assist with research activities and data collection projects for Anesthesiology Journals (i.e., quarterly reports for CME program). Primary responsibility to log incoming ASA Monitor content and track article elements for completion. Conduct preliminary checks of article formatting, headshots, author bios, and disclosure forms. Communicate with column editors to ensure timely article submission. Send out monthly ASA Monitor author copyright transfer and disclosure agreements via Convey. Ensure disclosure forms are received by publication deadline; record on issue lineup and conflict of interest acknowledgment in articles. Coordinate ASA Monitor website changes with the publisher. Work with ASA Monitor Today team to upload, proof, and publish content. Coordinate reprint permission requests. Determine if the request is within the ASA guidelines and reach out to legal or senior staff when questionable. Organize communications for signature and coordinate distribution.
