Role Description As a Civil Engineer at Current Hydro, you will play a critical role in the technical development of hydropower projects at complex riverine and navigation structures. This position offers the opportunity to apply deep technical expertise to nationally significant infrastructure, directly enabling the expansion of clean, firm power across the U.S. If you are motivated to contribute to infrastructure that will perform for generations and to be part of a mission-driven team accelerating the energy transition, this role offers a compelling opportunity. The Opportunity Current Hydro is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer to join our team. This is a remote, full-time position. The civil engineer will be responsible for: - Working closely with the team’s engineering disciplines (architectural, civil/structural, hydrotechnical, mechanical, and electrical) to lead the civil design and layout of new hydropower facilities. - Performing engineering analyses, preparing concepts and details, and directing preparation of design drawings in 2D and 3D environments utilizing AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Revit. What You’ll Do - Lead the design and development of site civil and earthwork components including grading, excavation, dredging, shoreline stabilization, stormwater design, and site restoration. - Prepare and review grading plans, dredging plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and site layout drawings. - Perform earthwork quantity calculations, dredge volume estimates, and material takeoffs. - Coordinate grading design, slope stability considerations, and foundation preparation requirements with geotechnical and structural designs. - Interface with survey, bathymetric, and geotechnical data to develop accurate grading and dredging models. - Assist with permitting support related to erosion control, stormwater, dredging, and environmental compliance. - Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, permitting requirements, and owner standards. - Mentor junior engineers and review technical work products. - Prepare design concepts and develop civil drawings and models in 2D and 3D environments using software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit. - Prepare design deliverables (engineering calculations, analysis, technical reports, technical specifications, civil drawings, quantity take-offs, etc.) in accordance with industry standards. - Provide engineering services during construction including submittal reviews, responses to contractor requests for information (RFIs), review of change orders, preparation of record drawings, and site inspections to verify compliance with design specifications. - Work closely with engineering disciplines (architectural, civil/structural, hydrotechnical, mechanical, electrical, etc.) on the design and layout of hydropower facilities to ensure integrated project delivery. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university, and a Professional Engineering (PE) license. Must be eligible for registration in other states as well. - Minimum of 8 years of experience in Civil engineering. - Proven experience in Civil engineering and project management skills. - Experience with software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil3D, Revit, and ArcGIS. - Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure. - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. - Commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. What You’ll Do - Work with a team of engineers to provide engineering inputs integral to new development hydroelectric projects. - Prepare and review Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modelling for new and existing hydraulic structures for new hydropower developments to evaluate potential impacts on navigation, scour, erosion, sediment transport, ice jams, hydraulic transients, etc. in accordance with USACE requirements and other industry standards. - Provide inputs to multi-disciplinary project team members and senior stakeholders to drive design decisions and key business decisions. - Support the design and configuration of hydraulic structures and water conveyance (e.g., layout of intake/tailrace channels, cofferdams, etc). - Support other permitting modeling, such as FEMA Flood Plain No Rise certifications. - Support development of physical modeling of hydraulic structures by reviewing model development, calibration reports, test plans, test results, etc. - Evaluation of storm water runoff requirements and slope protection requirements. - Preparation of technical reports, drawings, and specifications based on hydraulic modeling. - Preparation and delivery of presentations to internal and external stakeholders. - Provide services during construction including submittal reviews, response to Contractor’s request for information, review and approval of change orders, and preparation of record drawings. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including civil, mechanical, and structural engineers, to ensure integrated project delivery. - Conduct site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with design specifications. - Prepare and present technical reports and documentation to senior management and stakeholders. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university, and a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
