About the Role: Civics Team Intern The Civics Team Intern (CTI) supports Blue Haven Civics, which aims to strengthen the foundations of American democracy. Blue Haven Civics invests philanthropic and occasional for-profit capital in efforts to strengthen youth civic engagement, reduce corruption in politics, and make our tax system more equitable. We believe in equipping the next generation with the tools and skills necessary to create fairer markets, ensure more effective governance, and advance progressive policies. Organizations we support include Higher Ground Labs, Issue One, Voices for Progress, Free Speech For People, and Americans for Tax Fairness. The Summer CTI is a full-time remote internship (30 - 35 hours a week) and will be compensated at $20 to $22 an hour based on experience. Internships will begin in late May and last about 13 weeks. Interns are expected to work within BHC office hours, which are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm ET Mondays through Thursdays, and 8:00 am - 12:00 pm ET Fridays. Throughout the internship, BHC will operate under the following learning objectives: - Introduce interns to how philanthropy and advocacy can advance progressive political issues. - Train interns on how to prepare Congressional-quality briefings and research materials. - Empower interns to understand the importance of civics education and the youth vote. - Provide interns with experiences to engage with a variety of entities beyond the family office, including non-profit organizations, political campaigns, political candidates, and grassroots advocates. - Foster an independent spirit in interns by granting them ownership over their work and accomplishments. Responsibilities of the CTI include, but are not limited to: - Drafting research memoranda and visual presentations on items of interest and providing general project support across the portfolio of civic engagement activities. - Engaging in, and contributing to, strategy meetings about how to advance work on various projects and campaigns. - Preparing the Principal for meetings, speaking engagements, and other events through written materials and verbal briefings. - Attending events of interest to BHI and providing written insights on these meetings. - Creating, organizing, and managing a folder for briefings, memos, and memoranda. The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes: - Demonstrated long-term enthusiasm about voting and civic engagement, social justice, progressive politics, policy, or youth leadership. - Detail-oriented approach to all tasks, large and small. - Well-organized and proactive. - Able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, or a willingness to learn. - Ability to independently and creatively conduct research, or a willingness to learn. - 0 – 2 years of work experience. Experience in organizing, politics, government, philanthropy, or consulting is welcome but not required. We believe that university degrees are not accessible to everyone. Role Description The summer internship is a unique, high-visibility opportunity to work at the heart of BHI's investment activities. As a member of the Private Investments team reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Summer Associate will be embedded in end-to-end investment processes, from early-stage sourcing and market mapping through due diligence, pipeline management, and live deal support. The Summer Associate will also contribute to systems optimization and process improvements that directly shape how the team operates. This is a dynamic role with real responsibility: the Summer Associate will interact directly with senior leadership, Investment Committee members, and founders, gaining exposure that is rare at the internship level and meaningful from day one. The internship is expected to be approximately 2 months, running from June to August. The position is full-time and remote, with flexibility on work location. The Summer Associate will have the option to work in-person with the Managing Director in New York City a few times per week for those based in or near the area. Duties and Responsibilities - Conduct market research and build market maps across the US financial services and mental health investment landscapes, identifying trends, emerging business models, and high-potential early-stage companies - Review inbound investment proposals and prioritize high-quality opportunities aligned with BHI's thesis - Analyze market opportunities and investment themes to source proprietary deal flow - Meet with founders and management teams to assess potential investments - Assist in developing and refining investment selection criteria and internal evaluation frameworks - Provide daily support throughout the investment process, including memo writing, financial analysis, and competitive landscaping - Support portfolio monitoring activities including tracking financial performance, conducting company research, and evaluating impact metrics Qualifications - Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously - Proficient in building, reading, and interpreting financial models, statements, and projections - Strong research aptitude: ability to independently identify, qualify, and prioritize prospective companies from scratch - Drive to take ownership of processes and take tasks to completion with minimal oversight - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including synthesizing complex information into clear, concise narratives - Demonstrated interest in the intersection of private markets and social impact - Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment independently - Commitment to managing deadlines and delivering timely work product - Close attention to detail and accuracy in all materials Education and Experience - Work experience in private equity/venture capital, investment banking, or management consulting - Experience in or demonstrated interest in financial services, mental health, or healthcare investing - MBA preferred; or equivalent academic achievement in finance, economics, or accounting - Knowledge of and familiarity with investment analysis, accounting, and/or corporate finance - Demonstrated interest in or commitment to the impact investment industry via work experience or volunteer positions Benefits and Compensation - BHI will provide compensation that is commensurate with related work experience.
