Role Description As a Consumer Loan Underwriter II, you play a key role in helping members achieve their financial goals by making thoughtful, informed lending decisions. You’ll work across multiple channels—including dealership partners and real estate-secured products—to evaluate complex applications with care and precision. Your expertise will help ensure each member receives fair, timely, and well-structured lending solutions, while also supporting the continued strength and integrity of BECU’s lending portfolio. In this role, your voice matters—you’ll influence decisions, improve processes, and directly contribute to meaningful financial outcomes for our members. Note: This role requires working multiple shifts on PST time including closing shift, working weekends and holidays. What You'll Do - Apply Lending Expertise: Strong understanding of BECU’s loan policies, real estate lending practices, and applicable state and federal regulations. - Evaluate Lending Decisions: Review applications and confidently approve, counteroffer, or decline loans and credit lines within your authority. - Handle Exceptions Thoughtfully: Assess and decide on loan exception requests within your authority, using sound judgment while maintaining compliance. - Deliver Timely Outcomes: Prioritize efficiency by reviewing applications promptly and clearly communicating decisions. - Partner with Dealerships: Collaborate closely with indirect lending partners, providing responsive underwriting support. - Support Member Solutions: Identify member needs and explore opportunities for loan restructuring or alternative products. - Analyze Complex Financials: Assess income and cash flow with accuracy, ensuring verification aligns with BECU guidelines. - Provide Recommendations: Partner with leadership by escalating and recommending decisions on loans that fall outside your authority. - Maintain Portfolio Quality: Help uphold strong lending standards by meeting portfolio quality benchmarks. - Act as a Trusted Escalation Point: Support escalated member or dealer concerns, helping resolve issues efficiently. - Stay Informed: Maintain deep knowledge of credit bureau practices, consumer loan products, and internal decisioning processes. - Improve Processes: Monitor workflows, identify opportunities for efficiency, and contribute ideas that enhance service levels. - Drive Continuous Improvement: Research and evaluate potential product or process enhancements. - Support Team Success: Contribute wherever needed, taking on additional responsibilities to support team goals. Qualifications - Minimum requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent work or education-related experience. - Minimum requires 3 years of consumer lending underwriting experience to include all secured, unsecured, indirect, and home equity products. - Experience in underwriting unusual or complex consumer requests required. - Mathematical skills, with a high degree of accuracy. - Ability to make sound credit recommendations and decisions. - Strong time management and organization skills to effectively prioritize multiple objectives. - Ability to effectively problem solve and troubleshoot difficult member situations. • Serve as the technical steward of BECU’s MarTech ecosystem: Own platform configuration, integration patterns, data flows, and implementation standards to ensure long-term scalability, stability, and supportability. • Design and build advanced journeys and automation: Develop and optimize complex workflows, including audience qualification, orchestration rules, timing strategies, and cross-channel execution. • Enable personalization at scale: Configure advanced targeting, content rules, and decision logic; partner with channel and content teams to operationalize personalization while maintaining data quality and compliance. • Architect and maintain integrations: Implement and support integrations between Salesforce Marketing Cloud, data platforms, CDPs, personalization tools, and adjacent systems—ensuring accurate, observable, and governed data flows. • Ensure platform health and quality: Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, conduct QA and audience validation, and proactively identify risks to protect campaign accuracy, data integrity, and member trust. • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner closely with Marketing, MarTech, Data, IT, and Compliance stakeholders to solution use cases, evaluate tradeoffs, manage dependencies, and align solutions with enterprise standards. • Support campaign execution when needed: Roll up your sleeves during high-volume periods to help build, validate, and launch campaigns, ensuring deadlines are met without sacrificing quality. • Support experimentation and innovation: Pilot new tools, features, and use cases—evaluating feasibility, implementation effort, risk, and value prior to broader adoption. • Provide guidance and best practices: Offer technical guidance, architectural input, and best practices to marketing and operations partners—serving as a subject-matter expert without formal people-management responsibilities. • Establish standards and guardrails: Maintain implementation standards, documentation, and controls that enable consistent, compliant use of marketing technology across teams.
• Review MDX-related activities, communications, and materials for regulatory compliance, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with applicable federal and state requirements • Draft, update, and maintain operational risk controls and manage control inventories, ensuring controls are clearly documented, current, and aligned to regulatory expectations • Support internal and external audits by gathering documentation, responding to inquiries, and helping drive remediation of audit findings through clear and actionable plans • Assist with complaint review, tracking, and root-cause analysis, helping ensure complaints are addressed appropriately and trends are identified and escalated • Actively participate in PRCI and RCSA activities, supporting risk identification, assessment, and documentation efforts across the MDX organization • Research federal and state regulatory requirements and apply them practically to MDX operations, translating regulatory language into clear, actionable compliance guidance • Help build, refine, and improve compliance processes in a developing environment, balancing structure with flexibility as the program matures • Partner closely with MDX teams, Enterprise Compliance, and risk partners to embed compliance requirements into day-to-day operations
