Role Description LF Driscoll, part of the STO Building Group, is seeking a VDC Manager in Atlanta to support data center new construction projects. The Senior VDC Coordinator plays a critical role in implementing VDC processes throughout design and construction, with a strong emphasis on MEP/FP systems coordination in complex, high-density, and mission-critical environments. This role is responsible for leading coordination efforts, driving issue resolution, and ensuring high-quality BIM deliverables that support construction execution. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing coordination workflows across multiple stakeholders, including field operations, design teams, and trade partners. - Lead and manage MEP/FP BIM coordination workflows from preconstruction through construction. - Facilitate and drive coordination with field superintendents, design teams, subcontractors, and specialty vendors. - Perform and oversee clash detection and resolution using Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC). - Develop, manage, and maintain coordinated BIM models and composite drawings based on evolving design and construction inputs. - Lead coordination meetings, track action items, and ensure timely issue resolution and accountability. - Conduct site walkthroughs to validate field conditions and ensure alignment with coordinated models. - Manage and track coordination issues within ACC, ensuring proper documentation and closure. - Enforce VDC QA/QC standards and manage coordination sign-off processes. - Support implementation of VDC standards, workflows, and continuous improvement initiatives. - Mentor junior team members and contribute to overall team development. Qualifications - 7-10 years of experience in a VDC/BIM coordination role (GC, subcontractor, or design firm). - Strong working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD. - Proficiency with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC); experience with ReCap and point cloud workflows preferred. - Strong understanding of MEP systems, constructability, and construction sequencing. - Demonstrated ability to lead coordination efforts and drive issue resolution. - Experience with complex or large-scale projects; mission-critical experience strongly preferred. - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines. Requirements - Experience working on data center or mission-critical projects with complex MEP infrastructure. - Strong understanding of: - High-density MEP systems (power, cooling, containment) - Redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N systems) - Raised floor and/or overhead distribution coordination - Experience coordinating specialty systems and vendors, including UPS, switchgear, busways, CRAC units, and controls. - Familiarity with tight tolerance coordination, prefabrication strategies, and installation sequencing in constrained environments. - Exposure to commissioning, turnover, and as-built model requirements for mission-critical facilities. The MEP Estimator will develop, create and prepare MEP cost estimates for a diverse set of projects in the early stages of development and continue to support the project team with updated cost information throughout the Pre-construction phase of the projects. Responsibilities include but not limited to: - Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers. - Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work. - Review plans and MEP drawings. - Prepare quantity take-offs on assigned projects. - Ensure a complete review of plans and drawings. - Identify items that have been omitted and ensure appropriate accounting in overall estimate package. - Develop and maintain effective working relationships. Solicit subcontractor bids for assigned projects totaling $50 - $150 million per year. - Obtain 3-5 bids for each trade and supplier group. - Review and analyze bids for conformance to project specifications, price, material quality, insurance, wages, and related items. - Discuss and resolve any questions with subcontractor. - Follow approved estimating practices. - Ensure that financial objectives are met. - Maintain current information on trends in and changes to existing construction codes. - Utilize appropriate software programs to calculate, record and track estimates. - Attend client meetings, answer questions and resolve issues regarding pricing and estimates. Ensure client satisfaction. - Perform change order pricing, site visits, bid delivery and collaborating with teams on specific bids. - Determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists. Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness. - Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions. Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates. - Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating. - Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies. Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs. Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts. Qualifications: - BS or BA required. Primary Duties - Provide leadership for estimating and planning support personnel. - Monitor project budgeting and buy-out processes to ensure reliable information is available for estimates. - Facilitate communication of cost history to ensure on-going evaluation of pricing information for better cost modeling and estimating. - Monitor planning support processes to ensure efficient and effective use of resources. - Interface with marketing to ensure consideration of all relevant information, issues, and brand name recognition. - Assist in the evaluation, planning and execution of new scope of services and profit centers. - Monitor productivity and cost control on specific projects. - Attend project review meetings and facilitate solutions to budget problems as required. - Plan and implement training for estimators. - Identify and procure profitable projects by overseeing all business development activities, including customer relationships, networking, performing public relations activities, maintaining client database, and executing the client matrices. - Oversee all sales activities, including identifying and pre-qualifying leads, working on procurement strategies, developing proposals, responding to RFQ’s, SOQ’s and RFP’s. - Establish goals, procedures, systems, and tools used to accomplish sales/marketing tasks. - Commit the company in the project procurement process with respect to SBU projects. - This position supervises Estimating activities and personnel and therefore takes on the successes and failures of the team. - Employee will work with the Executives, Estimating and Planning Support Personnel, and clients. - Other related duties as assigned. - Represent Abbott Construction in the community by attending appropriate industry events as approved by the Vice President.
