Mainframe VTAM Engineer
Truist
• Resolves complex technical issues for Truist's Network applications. • Performs problem tracking, diagnosis and root-cause analysis, replication, troubleshooting, and resolution for complex issues. • Responds to issues in a timely manner by receiving and investigating incidents or service tickets. • Analyzes and observes trends with technical issues and develops recommendations for long-term improvements. • Documents all relevant end-user interactions and steps taken to resolve incidents. • Communicates status of issue resolution to internal customers. • May engage and manage outside vendors. • Applies in-depth knowledge of application support and an understanding of best practices. • Typically leads moderately complex projects and participates in larger, more complex initiatives. • Solves complex technical and operational problems. • Acts as a resource for teammates with less experience. • May have people management responsibilities for a small team.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in development or application support or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- In-depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices.
- Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function.
- Ability to plan and manage projects.
- Ability to solve complex problems by applying best practices.
- Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates.
- Ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information.
- Preferred Qualifications: VTAM/Network, IBM Mainframe
- VTAM/SNA (EE Configurations)/TCP/IP Experience
- Encryption and certificate management
- Familiarity with network security protocols (IPSec, AT-TLS, SSH) and network monitoring (Omegamon, NetMaster, Traces)
- Experience with logical connectivity between applications and mainframe subsystems
- Knowledge of Coupling facility support, High Availability and Automation
- Familiarity with parallel sysplex (GDPS), IBM System utilities
- Bachelor's degree and six years of experience or work experience equivalent.

• Lead the DES model generation from concept modelling to fully detailed mimic of the program / system that meet the design scope, operating principals, performance metrics, safety, quality, delivery, cost, people and environment objectives • Lead the system optimization, cost avoidance, best practises capturing and sharing this with relevant Stakeholders • Able to work effectively with design teams to develop and optimize solutions considering multi-attributes within defined deadlines and time constraints • Guide the process using a product knowledge and awareness of potential design constraints to ensure due consideration is given in developing solutions • Co-ordinate and lead projects and teams feedback of results as required through design / project reviews / DES Dashboards • Lead optimization of the DES model against different model derivative mixes and operational parameters • Lead the bottleneck analysis of the system and develop strategies to remove and lead volume throughput increase studies and system what ifs • Guide the process to adhere to the vehicle derivative sequencing and build to sequence rules • Support the continual development of tools and techniques which enhance capability, improve quality and robustness of DES models
