Job Description
Electrical Design Engineer
Trane Technologies
• Develop complete electrical system designs for lighting, power distribution, emergency systems, and controls for commercial and industrial facilities. • Prepare designs for roof, ground, and canopy photovoltaic systems including: site layouts, single line diagrams, generation models, and interconnection applications. • Produce construction-ready drawing packages: plans, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and specifications using AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, or similar design tools. • Perform engineering calculations: load analysis, short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, voltage drop, conduit sizing and energy efficiency assessments. • Ensure all designs are fully compliant with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, UL, IEC, UBC). • Collaborate with architects, clients, utility companies, and other engineering disciplines to ensure inter-discipline coordination and constructability. • Participate in site surveys, field investigations, and construction support activities—overseeing data collection, installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning. • Prepare technical documents including engineering reports, cost estimates, permit applications, technical specifications, and as-built documentation. • Support permit and interconnection application processes with local agencies, authorities, or utilities. • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to enhance project performance and cost-effectiveness. • Provide mentoring to junior staff engineers and designers as appropriate.
