Backend Software Engineer
Delivery Units
Role Description - Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python. - Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and database objects. - Design normalized and scalable PostgreSQL database schemas. - Optimize SQL queries and database performance for large datasets. - Troubleshoot database performance issues using query execution plans and indexing strategies. - Write database migrations and maintain data integrity across releases. - Build REST APIs and integrate them with backend services. - Collaborate with application developers to design efficient data models. - Participate in code reviews focusing on both application and database quality. - Create unit and integration tests for backend components. - Support deployment activities and production issue resolution when required. Qualifications - 4+ years of backend software development experience. - Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL. - Excellent SQL skills, including: - Complex joins - CTEs - Window functions - Views - Stored Procedures - Functions - Triggers - Performance tuning - Indexing strategies - Experience writing and optimizing production-grade SQL queries. - Strong understanding of relational database design and normalization. - Hands-on experience with Python backend development. - Experience building REST APIs. - Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows. - Experience debugging production database issues. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Requirements - 3+ years professional Python backend experience. - Real experience with both Django and FastAPI. - Can write SQL stored procedures, not just basic queries (this will be tested — most "Python devs" fail here). - PostgreSQL preferred; other relational DB ok if SQL skills are strong. - Can work independently with minimal onboarding.
