Job Description

Senior Software Engineer – Full Stack

Virtuous

• Own features across Raise end to end, from forms and campaign pages to A/B testing, analytics/reporting, and data-driven donor upgrades, with the same weight given to visual polish as to functionality • Help build the next wave of agentic experiences inside Raise, including agentic form and page building for nonprofit customers (leveraging their brand, voice, and data) and extending that agentic approach into email and other donor-facing touchpoints • Design, build, and ship net-new, revenue-driving features across the full stack • Own the performance, scalability, and reliability of the systems you build, instrumenting and monitoring them as first-class parts of the work • Review AI-generated code with real architectural judgment, catching issues before they ship rather than rubber-stamping AI output • Collaborate closely with Product and Design to translate donor and nonprofit customer needs into technical solutions • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions, contributing thoughtfully without becoming a bottleneck (we're looking for strong opinions, held loosely, not someone who slows the team down nitpicking style) • Write clean, testable, efficient code across the frontend and backend • Research and resolve customer bugs and issues preventing a world-class product experience • Support a culture of experimentation, iteration, and continuous delivery

Job Requirements

  • 6+ years building modern web applications, including meaningful time spent running and scaling them in production
  • Proficiency with C# and APIs, plus experience integrating with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend frameworks such as Vue, React, or Svelte
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) as a regular part of your development workflow, alongside a strong pre-AI engineering foundation
  • Experience operating cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (e.g., Terraform, TerraGrunt)
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, not just querying them, but tuning them: indexing, query optimization, and strategies for scaling (read replicas, partitioning, connection pooling, etc.)
  • Solid DevOps fundamentals: CI/CD pipelines, containerization, infrastructure monitoring, and hands-on experience scaling applications under real load
  • Comfort with observability tooling (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting), DataDog preferred, and a habit of using it to debug and prevent production issues
  • Design sensibility, comfort owning donor-facing, polished UI work, not just functional implementation
  • A love for building quality products that delight users and solve real problems
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset.

Benefits

  • Market competitive pay leveraging Carta data
  • Employee recognition through Bonusly (birthdays, anniversaries, achievements, etc.)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching- 50% match up to 6% of compensation after 90 days
  • We value our employee’s work-life balance and encourage taking advantage of Unlimited PTO
  • Supportive time off including paid volunteer days and company holidays
  • Employer-contributed healthcare benefits, encompassing medical, dental, and vision coverage, with plans available for dependents and choices for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
  • 12 weeks primary parent leave, 4 weeks secondary parent leave - full pay (adoption as well)
  • We pride ourselves on Community and host exciting company outings and events.

• Lead the design of architectures that serve multiple squads. • Write and act as the final reviewer of structural RFCs, anticipating edge cases. • Drive build vs. buy decisions and the adoption of new technologies, including analysis of costs, risks, and long-term impacts. • Diagnose and lead the remediation of systemic issues that affect services. • Lead technical investigations (post-incident) for the most severe incidents, even outside your home squad, proposing structural changes to prevent recurrence. • Address scale and latency bottlenecks that limit growth (e.g., Pix throughput during peak times). • Define technical standards to be adopted across engineering (observability, testing, security, use of databases/Kafka). • Eliminate whole classes of technical debt by creating tooling and abstractions reused by multiple teams. • Mentor engineers and help them reach the next level. • Act as the "glue" between squads: align technical decisions, eliminate duplicated work, and steer teams in the same direction. • Participate in hiring panels for engineering roles, helping to calibrate the technical bar.
