Senior Network & Infrastructure Engineer

JTL-Software GmbH

Role Description You'll join our Infrastructure & Platform team — nine people responsible for hosting and for on-premises and cloud infrastructure across multiple sites. We run production environments in our own data centers (DDU, Equinix colocation), at Hetzner, and in Azure. Networking isn't a side topic here — it's a core responsibility: you'll take dedicated ownership of everything network-related and be the team's central point of contact for it. Your Responsibilities - Configure and manage switches, firmware upgrades, and IPsec and OpenVPN tunnels - Maintain the Wi-Fi infrastructure across all company sites - Monitor and coordinate our Equinix colocation environment, and handle communication with the provider - Maintain DNS zones and own network design and architecture - Handle VPN helpdesk tasks and support network troubleshooting across teams - Act as the interface to the ITA team for all cross-functional network topics - Plan and implement routing between Azure and our DDU data center Qualifications - You have several years' experience configuring and managing network infrastructure (switches, routing, firewalling) - You know IPsec and OpenVPN tunnels inside out — not just in theory - You have experience with DNS management and Wi-Fi operations in multi-site environments - You're familiar with colocation operations (e.g., Equinix or comparable) - You work independently and in a structured way, and you communicate clearly — including with non-technical stakeholders - Good German language skills (at least B2 level) Requirements - Azure networking knowledge (VNets, VPN Gateway, routing) - Nice to have - General Azure cloud experience (IaaS, VMs, storage, subscriptions) - Nice to have Benefits - Remote-first within Germany, with the option to work remotely from eligible countries for up to 180 days per year - Meal allowance of up to €115 net per month - Ergonomic workspace allowance for your home office setup - Regular team events, company-wide gatherings, and summer and Christmas parties to stay connected as a remote-first company - EGYM Wellpass and JobRad subsidy - Financial benefits including capital-forming payments (Vermögenswirksame Leistungen) and a company pension scheme Company Description JTL is one of the leading providers of e-commerce software in the German-speaking region – with around 450 employees across the group and 50,000 customers from a wide range of industries. We develop scalable, flexible solutions for the online retail of the future – from ERP systems to shop and marketplace integrations. Fairness and respect are part of our everyday practice. Are you committed, curious, and eager to work in a team while taking on responsibility? Are you looking for a job where Monday isn’t the worst day of the week? Then we look forward to receiving your application!

Role Description We're looking for an Infrastructure Software Engineer to sit at the intersection of software development and site reliability. Our software stack is cloud-native, built on active collaboration with popular open source technologies from developer tooling through production. You'll spend roughly half your time writing production code for product platform and core systems infrastructure and the other half driving reliability, observability, and operational health of these systems with the rest of the engineering team. On the software side, you'll contribute to the full backend of our product — building and shipping features while also helping to define and build the platform and infrastructure layers those features run on. That means writing production-quality services and APIs and thinking carefully about what it means for a system to be maintainable, observable, and operable at scale. You'll bring an infrastructure-aware perspective to product development, helping the team build things that are designed to run well in production from the start. On the reliability side, you'll take the lead on how we build, deploy, monitor, and alert on our systems — but this isn't a sole-ownership role. You'll work alongside the broader engineering team, building the culture and practices around reliability as much as the tooling itself. That means driving postmortems and remediations collaboratively, establishing the frameworks that help everyone participate meaningfully in on-call and incident response, and closing the loop by improving internal tooling and systems. Our platform sits at the heart of how utilities and energy providers manage an increasingly complex grid. The systems you build and operate need to be fast, correct, and available — grid operators make real-time decisions based on the data and interfaces we provide, and reliability has consequences that extend well beyond our codebase. We take that responsibility seriously, and we want someone who does too. Qualifications - Minimum 3 years of experience in a software engineering role with a strong infrastructure or platform focus - Experience working with Python 3 — you're comfortable owning backend services and APIs end to end, not just writing scripts - Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and GCP (or comparable cloud), ideally in production environments - Experience working with CI/CD pipelines - Familiarity with observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana, and an instinct for what good monitoring looks like - A collaborative approach to reliability — you know how to bring a team along, not just fix things yourself Requirements - Experience with energy, utilities, or other regulated/critical infrastructure domains (nice to have) - Familiarity with the Bazel build tool (nice to have) - Familiarity with Go, Node.js and Python packaging (nice to have) - Experience with SQL, databases or data warehouses (nice to have) Benefits - Competitive base salary - Comprehensive benefits, including FSA and 401k for full time employees - Fully remote workplace with options for in office work in the Bay Area - Flexible PTO, which we encourage you to use! - A real impact on climate change - we’re building the world we want to live in and we want you to join us! - The expected base salary for this role is $180,000 - $230,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
